Wow, that sucks.

Quote:
In McHenry County, jurors are selected from lists of licensed drivers (at least 18 years of age), registered voters, State Identification Card Holders and Disabled Person I.D. Card Holders. These are combined into a single juror database. For each week of jury service, the computer system picks names at random to provide jurors for the courts.
It varies from county to county though.

I was summoned to be on jury duty today but when I called, as instructed, yesterday I found out they didn't need me. Yeaaaaaa!!!!!

It's the second time in 2 years that I've been summoned.

I've done it a few times. I got called twice in a year. once for state and once for federal downtown. the fed was cool as it seemed like it was international drug smuggling ring day at the courthouse. althought they all copped a plea while we were out on break each time. very anticlimactic.

I did an internship over at County Farm, most of my work was in the jury commission. The selection is totally randomized. A machine selects names for the week from Voter's cards, Licenses and State ID's, just like in McHenry. You might be able to get out of it, depending on when the last time you did jury duty in DuPage

Quote:
(705 ILCS 305/14) (from Ch. 78, par. 14)
Sec. 14. It shall be sufficient cause of challenge of a petit juror that he lacks any one of the qualifications mentioned in Section 2 of this Act; or if he is not one of the regular panel, that he has served as a juror on the trial of a cause in any court in the county within one year previous to the time of his being offered as a juror;....If a person has served on a jury in a court within one year, he shall be exempt from again serving during such year, unless he waives such exemption.
Not that I would advocate such a thing. It's a civic duty and all. The people that run the Jury Commission are great, and can reschedule your day fairly easily, and they offer free wifi in the lounge. Some of the cases can be pretty interesting too. They do need to change that hokey video they show in the morning though.

No kidding! That vid is pretty bad!

Last time i was on the coroners inquisition and we had to determin the 5 causes of death. That was really cool and WELL worth it! Got to see some bodies, (some where friggin gruesome!) Never really knew what a body looks like after carbon monxide poisening.....Train hit, OD, and gunshot, and i forget the other but all in all it was pretty cool.

I dont mind doing it at all its just that i know so many people who never got called and then i get so many in a couple years??? I guess i tip the scales on the "Random" thing huh?

You can go only ones a year.
If she was there this year already, she can be dismissed.
Just call them.

I had to watch that video 3 times a week!

The Coroners' inquest is probably the best gig, if you have to do jury duty. The guy that runs that was one of the coolest I worked with. He got me in to watch an autopsy, which was weird. One of the techs was a cute blonde. It was weird to watch her saw a skull open and pop the dudes brain out.
