Paint chipping....

Ok so i was cleaning my car out today, and i notice that the paint is chipping on the side of my passanger side door. WTF? I didn't hit anything, no scrtches or anything... just the paint chipping away.
So I call and ask if it's covered under warranty, they said if it's peeling then that means that there is a defect in the paint!? And would be covered under warranty.... is that true??
SO my paint is chipping away and looks like it's just gunna get worse... if i don't do something soon.... I am taking it in tomorrow so they can check it out but i doubt they will say anything.... Any suggestions??

Bikes can be replaced...people can't...ride safe!!

ok but if a rock hits, it would leave a dent, scratch... something.... there is nothing! It's the paint it's self...

rock hits dont always leave a scratch or a dent. unless its flaking, or you've got weird dime sized chips there is now way they're going to cover it.

Rock chips dont typically happen on side doors.

ya if its just peeling it might be under warranty, just to be safe, wear something nice when you take it in

Yes I recommend a very minimal amount of clothing. A school girl outfit could probably get her a brand new car.

That should be covered. Just got my car back from the dealer for paint chips and RUST on my rear/right fender.

if they don't cover it, ask them to give you a good reason why they are not.

my understanding of a warrenty is that they are required to cover the vehicle unless they can prove that something you did caused the failure to happen. i don't know if that applies to paint, but rock chips on a pass door would hard to believe without a dent or scratch

this happened to a bunch of chevys in the early 90s. All their mettallic paints would chip off, and they wouldn't cover them. Your car should be covered if it's so new and there's no dents.... but I, too, recommend leaving Biggy at home and going to the dealership in hot pants and a perky bra.

out of customer apprication touch up is hardly ever heard of.

they do a couple of things IF they do.

1. they have a porter dab some touch up paint that you get in those bottles. they dont prep, etc, etc, etc. that stuff will pull off with your finger nail.

2. they pay sub contractors like myself to touch-up or repaint areas for cheaper then a body shop exspense.

i am the only touch-up company that warrantys for 6 months paint and labor.

so take a guess what you could get?

if they dont cover it, let me know i can touch up for you and you wont ever have to worry about it rusting or getting bigger for a decently cheap price.

ive been in business since 1994, done THOUSANDS of cars.

not to this day have i ever seen a door EDGE chip that wasnt cause from someone opening the door into something.

chips happen ALL the time. 99% of them dont leave dents from STONE chips.

other object hitting the car chipping and denting the paint is beyond the norm or rock chips from driving and hitting tiny rocks that pop up from cars and trucks.

hunny, I say this out of respect to everybody on the board, if you decide to go this route, please bring a camera. this is so we can "inspect" the body work. No pictures of the car required

Is the paint falling off the primer or is the bare metal showing? My 92 Soinoma had a delamination issue that I FOUGHT with GMC about. Early 90's were bad for this and Ford, Mopar and GM vehicles all could get it. Generally it was certain colours that did it. Mine wasnt one of them and it still did it. SO if it really is a delamination issue, just touching it up isnt gonna fix the overall problem. Get a pic of it and post it here so we can see exactly where its coming off. If its teh edge I'm with Ken and say its been opened into another car.

yup, my 90 Formula 350 had this problem, paint was falling off the hood. Thankfully a girl I broke up with keyed it and I ended up having the whole car redone with the insurance check.

Yea... I can see the metal under the paint. I don't think I can take a pic. now, maybe in a.m.... it isn't that bad right now... but I know it's there and I can see that if I don't do anything soon, that is it just goin to get really bad. It looks like shit to me. I asked someone to find the chips, just to see how noticeable it was, and they didn't even have to look twice... so they are visible. I have a couple dents from STUPID ASS people that don't know how to open a car door at Harper.... bastards! I can get those fixed, and don't bother me because they aren't even scratched or chipping.. just a lil dent here and there...
I have no idea what the hell did this? Anywho, gettin up early before work to take it in and see what they say... and yea.... i'll make sure to look specially nice But i am goin to work, so can't look THAT nice

Ken... i may have to give you a call, i doubt that they will do anything over there... thanks guys/gals

Take it to Ken.

I had my car out to him twice and could not be happier with the work.
