Tax question, Buying in TN

In the next couple weeks I'll be picking up a bike in TN from southern honda. What kind of taxes am I going to have to pay when I plate it and title it here? I think this has been covered recently but I believe all states are different?

Street bike or race/dirt bike??? If you are not reg. it for the street you can get away with not paying taxes. I am not sure on the street bike though.

you pay taxes only in illinois (or wherever you plate it), not in the state you bought it. Depends on the county you live in, Dupage is somewhere around 7%, or it was 2 years ago when I bought my bike out of state. Make sure the dealer doesn't still try and charge you for title, registration, or sales tax. They should just hand over the certificate of origin if its a new bike.

Be sure to pay the tax within 30 days.Illinois likes their money now or they add penalties. My buddies just got an ear full from the wife(she has a couple currency exchanges) for waiting.

Its not how fast you get there,But the condition you arrive.

TN doesn't charge sales tax, that's why everyone got their 50's from Southern Honda. Just add the 3% county tax to the price, then pay IL sales tax when you plate it.

Does someone know what the percent the taxes are exactly for cook vs. dupage? I want to know where it's going to be cheaper to register it.

Cook is cheaper but not by that much and insurance is lower in Naperville (DuPage)

http://www.revenue.state.il.us/Indiv...lated/cars.htm

Can you swing by the DMV today in Naperville and pick up these forms. Then we can figure out how much it would cost before heading down ther

If you buy any vehicle out of state they don't charge sales tax. Thats why everyone who races or buys a atv/dirtbike buys them out of state. If you don't registar it there is no sense in paying the taxes.
