What car should I get?

So I'm thinking about trading my car in. If the dealer will give me what I want I will do it.

What should I look into? This will be for business use. I need a 4 door, something used with less than 30k miles. I want it to last about 150k mile lifespan. I'm hoping to pay under $20k.

Why are you selling the little VW?

That is an awesome commuter car. Don't you get like 600 miles on a tank of fuel in that thing?

I'd be careful about negotiating trade-in value with a stealer.

Sure, they'll give you what you want for your car, but don't for a second think they won't try to tack that money they're giving you for your car somewhere else. Try to sell your car private party if it all possible, if not, try seeing what Carmax will give you for it. Last resort should be the stealer IMO.

I had my buddy who works for GMAC pull numbers on what i should get. So I have a little intelligence going into a dealer.

I also don't care about fuel economy, my company pays for gas.

I loved my old Maxima. It went 50,000 before it's first service call. I offed it at 80,000 for no good reason. It's a little more upscale than an Accord and you can pick up a used one for el cheapo.

Nissans tend to develop fuel injector problems other than that there decent cars.

I disagree with the Maxima as a car that will last 150K. That thing will be a money pit after 80K. In addition, the Accord may last 150K, but you will have some hefty repairs on that car. They are not cheap to fix.

Best bet is a low end Honda or Toyota - Civic or Corrolla. Or a Mini Cooper, I hear they are built like a tank.

The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

At 80k mark I had the brakes, tires and the 50k service. No other problems at all. Period. I think including the tires I dropped less than $1,500 of service into it. I suppose it could have tanked after that, but the car ran great at 80k. Not bad for a car that cost me under $24k. I even got around $14k on the trade in. $12k for 5 years is cheap transportation.

well, hold the phone...

few questions, why are you selling your car? is there something wrong with it? did your life style change, that requires you to purchase a different vehicle? If you have equity in a car (worth more then you owe) you are better off then buying a new car. especially if you are going from a VW to an accord or something like that.

I should have said they will last that long, but will cost a small fortune to maintain. My family had a Maxima. After 80K, all the motors crapped out. The antenna motor stopped working. The both rear window motors broke shortly after that. The sunroof motor crapped out. Even the windshield wiper motor broke. Suspension issues, fuel injector replacement three times, the interior started falling off. After 80K, Maximas fall apart. But then again, this is probably true of most cars.
