winmail.dat file ?

I just got an email with an attachment thats a winmail.dat file. What do I need to open this ? Its looking like a ancient Greek wall painting when using word or excel etc !

notepad says the file is too large. wordpad it opens as the greek paintings again.

Why do I want this kind of file to stop ? Its from a business partner.. Im guessing its something I want or need.. Is this type of file normally crap or ?

Please forgive my stupidity on these type of things.

I just read the link above.. Am I understanding this correctly.. there most likely isnt anything useful in the attachment and its attached automatically ?
