Any TV repair people here???

Anyone repair TV's? I think the tube on my 36' Magnavox went out, I'm not sure though. It won't do anything, it just all of sudden didn't work. Does anyone know if I did have it repaired, about how much this would cost? The TV is about 8 yrs old. Any clue on what to look for, or anything?

KJ

TV repair is a dying art Gixx. You can avoid the $75 truck fee by bringing it someplace, but you are still looking at $50 to look at it, then have them see which part is fried. They 'fix' it (adding 40% to the part cost for profit), and it craps out again just after warranty because the part that was cooked was only the sympton, not the cause. Your out at least $150.

Last time I took a TV in, it made it another year of light use (hour or two a day) before crapping out again. That technology is changing fast. Check online for a similarly equipped model..if that is even available now. Good chance it's not.

I agree, I would think you could possible replace it for the cost of in home service. A 36 inch tube is probably not somthing you want to be lugging around to repair centers.

Let me ask, is it HD, may be a good enough reason for an upgrade.

If there is sound and no picture, the ray gun is shot. If it does not power up, then you have a fuse or transformer issue. 8 year old tube TV, throw it in the trash. That is what I did with my 35" tube TV, best move I ever made.
