Fair price for dog sitting

I'm dog-sitting for my landlord's son's dog right now. The pooch is staying for a month. How much should they pay me to watch the dog?

She's a good dog, not really any trouble at all. No crapping on the floor or chewed up shoes. But, there's no yard so I actually have to get the plastic baggy and a leash and take her for real walks a few times a day.

The landlord already took $140 off my rent for for watching the dog and she says her son is going to pay me too. Anyone have a good idea how much I should get paid?

I'm thinking maybe $10-$15 a day. Is that too much? Too little?

Eric

I wouldn't expect anything. If your doing as a service the deal should have been made prior to watch.

r u paying for dog food also?...or did they give u some to feed the dog with?...if no $ out of your pocket then maybe 5 to 10 a day..since its really no skin off your nose..and u are not over charging them...cause that might cause an issue...cause 10 x 30 days makes it to 300 bucks...so leave it to like a nice even 100 bucks...

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

if they are taking money off your rent, anything the son gives you should be just gravy. Just remember if it isn't generous don't do it next time... I agree that you should have come to terms up front if you were expecting money.

Don't charge anything. Use it as a favor, you might need one from your landlord in the future. Plus having the landlord love you might come in handy in the future. You never know.

I blow the snow for her in the winter for free. That's the extent of my charity work. Plus she drives a big ole Benz so she's not hurting for cash.

But yeah, it is a favor. Thats why I didn't ask "how much" up front

Either way, no big deal. Just curious

Oh, and Maynard, I once agreed to dogsit a cocker spaniel for three weeks; I ended up having him for almost 8 years! (See "Roscoe" in the dog picture thread).

+1 At Elmhurst Animal Hospital it's $15 a day (but they provide food, toys, etc). If she already tok $140 off your rent, then I wouldn't "ask" for a certain amount of money. If her son gives you some extra cash then cool but I wouldn't be like "uh how about another $50"

Naw, I wouldn't do that. Whatever they give me is fine. Unless he hands me a $20. I just want to know at what point I should curse him out under my breath for being a cheap ass

On our last vacation, we paid $13 per day per pet, for someone with experience to watch them. That included food, playtime and confidence that the animals were well cared for. However: that was for a pair of rabbits... and rabbits need a bit more monitoring than dogs, and eat a hell of a lot less (bunnies hide illness VERY well).
