Any MD's in the house????

I went to the ER Sunday for shooting pains going thru the entire bottom of my foot. They took X-rays and were negative for a fracture. ER doc said it was Plantar Fascitis.(Ummmmm I have had this before and its not this) but, took his word for it and went home with my drugs. Well, it has progressively gotten worse and I cant put any weight on my foot now.

I went yesterday to get a second opinion, and this doctor said he wouldnt even know where to start to diagnos anything. So he ordered an MRI, Bone scan, and blood test. Of course I cant get these done until next Thursday.:

What does a bone scan entail?? I was told it was a 2 part test.: Any ideas of what is wrong with my foot???

I don't know what that stuff is. I think Will is or is almost an MD.

Did they check for diabetes or are you diabetic? Problems in the feet is common I hear.

Is there any swelling, discoloration? Pain only on the bottom?
Hurts all the time or only when you put pressure on it?

Peripheral neuropathy (pain resulting from degeneration of the nerve endings in the extremities) is a side effect associated with advanced diabetes. Doubt you would fall into that category.

It sounds like a broken bone.... maybe the X-ray missed something.

It looks a little swollen. No discoloration, and it hurts no matter what I'm doing. Especially laying down, it hurts the worse. I cant even put any pressure on it at all.

I work in a hospital (paramedic) and asked an Orthopedic about your condition. He said you probably have a heel spur but you would of seen it on the x-ray.

Also, you might have a strained ligament (plantar fascia) on the bottom of your foot that caused the same symptons you are describing.

A night splint would help you when you are laying down, but the best is to see an Orthopedic than just having all these tests done and no one seems to know what it is. You might be glowing soon with all the x-rays, MRI's, etc.

Just my thoughts, but I hope you feel better soon.

What were you thinking??? You can't catch me!

It's not plantar fascitis. Altho it could be a strained plantar fascia. I just didnt think it would hurt as bad as it is. The X-rays were negative for fractures and spurs.

St Joes is the pits. Have heard and experienced way to much crap to ever step foot in their.
Example 1.

My dad has never smoked in his life and is pretty much an iron man gets a killer soar throat. Doc at St. Joes advises him to quit smoking.

Ex 2
Wifes friend has surgery for a lump on her breast. She is supposedly asleep during the op. She was actually awake and able to see and feel but under engought sedatives not to be able to react. Sheer terror and nightmares.

Ex 3
If a driver at the Joliet Speedway needs to be airlifted, they send them to Olypia Field when Joliet is only 2min away WTF?

Try Edward Hopital or for that matter any one but St Joes.
Hope that foot feels better.

Tim

Edward Hospital is located just south of downtown Naperville at 801 S. Washington St. (355-0450). It's about 1 mile north of 75th St.
With concern to your complaint you may also want to have your blood levels checked for the possibility of having gout. Gout is diagnosed as an abnormally high amount of uric acid in the bloodstream. Without going into a long dissertation it then causes salt crystals to form which in turn become deposited in the joints and tissues which can cause pain, swelling of a joint (ankles are very succeptable), and if in the foot increased pain with pressure. It is typically treaded with meds as well as a change in your diet.
A bone scan is done by injecting a dye into your bloodstream that enhances the contrast of the desired tisue/ bone so that the films taken are of a much higher quality than a plain x-ray.
Hope this helps.

I had gout once many years ago. It hurt like hell! That's why I asked if there was swelling. I could barely put a shoe on to get to the doctor.

I had to take some time off of the foot. I seem to recall something about "rich foods". It could well be diet related, but I couldn't tell you how or what foods. A quick web search should find a lot of info.

infact my step dad has gout, and he can not get massages. cause it makes it flair up, i guess the acids gets spread around the blood stream and makes it flare up.
