How old was your mom when you were born?

From my doctor's website www.mercola.com

Want to Live Longer? Make Sure Your Mom is Less Than 25 Years Older Than You

Those who live to be 100 years and older are more likely to have had young mothers, according to research from the University of Chicago's Center on Aging.

A mother's age when she gives birth has a large impact on the future lifespan of her child, the study found. Researchers reviewed census data, social security administration database and genealogical records and identified 198 U.S. centenarians born from 1890 to 1893.

Results showed that children born to mothers under the age of 25 have nearly double the chance of living to be 100 than those born to older mothers. The father's age did not appear to have an impact.

Other factors that also appear to affect longevity include growing up in the Western United States, growing up on a farm and being a first-born child. However, the researchers said mother's age appears to be more important for longevity than any other factor.

The findings could have major implications, as an increasing number of women are putting of childbirth until later ages in favor of career or other pursuits.

Women had children much earlier in life back then too, because family survival depended on it.

Ok here's the problem I see with that line of thinking. with medical advances we are all starting to live longer. and as you go back in history woman were all having kids right after they go married at a relatively young age. I think if you graphed the two trends it would show a correlation but I don't think its necessarily related

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Who the f*ck wants to live to be 100 anyway. At 80-85 you'll probably be living in an old folks home, wearing depends, drueling and deficating all over yourself, and you won't remember family or friends, who are probably all dead already, or what you did 5 minutes ago. You want to live like this for another 15-20 years. Not me!

I agree, if my mind is mush like that, I wouldn't want to be a burden on others, take me quickly in my sleep.

Not a clue. I was adopted. Odds are she was young and single. I should probably try and run her down before too much more time goes by. I know her name and where I was born. It shouldn't be too tough.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Mom and I are 20 years and 2 weeks apart. My great-grandmother lived to be 99, and my grandmother (at 84) is still cleaning houses for a living.

My paternal grandparents, on the other hand, both died in their mid-60's. Dad died when he was 61.

I figure the odds be 50-50... and since there won't be anybody to care for me in my dotage, I just hope that I'll either get to go peacefully in my sleep, or go quickly, while doing something that I love - before I'm too decrepit to take care of myself. Growing old alone is something I'm not too thrilled about.
