Elmhurst Squids?

So I'm riding home from my business Algebra class this evening on Rt. 83 south and I see two guys heading north on Rt.83 going 120+mph, engine's screaming and them fully tucked in. About 15 seconds later I see literally EVERY police vehicle in Elmhurst heading north on 83 in persuit. Was a very interesting scene for a little while, I was a little scared that one of the po-pos was going to roll me thinking I was one of them.

One bit of humor was watching them fly by and seeing one of them with their helmet firmly attached to the seat of the bike... how much good does that do you at 120mph? Yay squiddom...

+1 lol

It's a free country, who the fuck cares if the helmet was strapped to the seat. Going 120 with or without a helmet is a mute issue. If you go down, you're gonna die anyway.

If you own a sportbike and have never opened it up 120+, there is something wrong.

I hope they got away too, as much of a bad rap as it gives us law abiding (most of the time) riders. My point with the helmet was only that if you're going to bother owning one and bother bringing it with you when you ride, what better time to use it than when you're trying to conceal your identity and flee from the police? Hopefully they're alive tonight but slow down guys... as Ody and others have said on numerous occasions, a speeding ticket, no matter how bad is not worth your life.

Hahah, that's funny. I was at the Portillo's on 83 when those two guys went ripping by. Then 4 squads went flying down after them.

I turned out of portillo's and followed. The cops were actually responding to something else in the neighborhood behind the Jiffy Lube. The guys on the bikes got away.

They prolly carried it for their passengers.

I don't care if people wear their helmets or not. IMO it is stupid, but what I don't understand is how you can see anything or hear anything. Doing 120, the wind noise is pretty damn loud. Also the wind would tear into my eyes, how can you deal with that? I ride without a helmet to work sometimes, all 5 blocks of it, but when I'm doing anything over 35, my eyes can't handle it. Just my 2 cents.

lol I meant moot

But, I wasn't joking. I doubt anyone would survive a 120 mph crash on public roads with or without a helmet.

i've seen it survived, first hand. That mentality is what keeps people from wearing them, and it's very incorrect.

I agree. Without a helmet or gear you have NO CHANCE to live. With a helmet and gear you have a VERY GOOD CHANCE to live and maybe even walk away with minor injuries.

I hope your kidding.

They could cause an accident and/or get someone killed with their recklessness. I don't give a damn if it's a motorcycle. That's not in the middle of nowhere and there are people out there who might get hurt trying to get out of the way. Motorcycle can cause damage to a car if the situation becomes bad enough.

You were going 120+ when that happened? I remember you saying you were on a country road and you were at 70 mph when you put it down.

with no gauges its impossible to know, all died. do the math on the skid mark vs. 145mph rear tire lockup. people survive 120mph getoff's all the time, if they're prepared.

C'mon, man, that's a little ridiculous. How many people do you know that 1) have gotten in 120 mph crash on the street, not including on the track and 2) have survived. ??? I do not know one. I guess it is all relative.

scroll up. besides, isnt one enough?! I mean if even one person walks away versus zero I'd think it's worth a try.

IMO - The likelyhood of of surviving at 120+ is infinitely better with a helmet and gear than without. The deciding factor is wheather not the rider impacts anything else(car, tree, ect..) If it's just a roll on pavement or grass they should make it through.. Think about track riders..

I as well as RSVMellian (or whatever Dan's name thing is) know one very well - Went over the front at about 120+ and is still around - He is a Serb and they are natures little freaks to begin with and their skulls measure 4 inches thick, but he survived

lol What about the children!. I guarantee the number of people around to talk about it pale in comparison to those who are no longer here to voice their opiniion.

For those that hoped those guys would get away from the cops...

If your bike gets stolen will you be hoping that the cops can't catch the theif?

If someone is running from the police, sometimes it's for more than just avoiding a ticket, think about it.

Many of the deaths we hear about are helmetless. But what happens a good portion of the time is that a guy goes down in full gear, bike may or may not go to shit...the other riders stand around for a while...then they either tape the bike back together or someone gives him a ride home. You simply never hear about the guys who survive unless it's someone from here (and last I checked there's at least one or two bikers in the chicagoland area that aren't on this forum). All you hear about is the bike after bike that goes down with little or no gear and die or get seriously injured. Sure there's going to be some fully geared amongst those, but not the majority.

It's simply a perception...sorry, there's too many variables for such a vague comment.

I was behind Chris when this happened. We were doing about 130, and his rear tire locked up. I'd say he went over the bike at about 90-80 MPH. It happened so fast I doubt he could have scrubbed more than that. He was very fortunate that there was no oncomming traffic or any other obstacles in his path.
