did you start with a micro helicopter? they are very difficult to fly. The larger ones I guess are easier to learn, but require lots of stuff to fly, and it's a pretty serious investment money wise. The small ones can almost be flown in your house.

Congrats.

How difficult are those to fly? We saw a guy over the weekend with one, and that looked like a lot of fun.

It's hard, very hard, but I got a training kit, am working with a simulator, and am taking it slow. so far so good

Never had one of those but just by looking at the controller, it's enough to make you pull your hair out. I'll stick to the nitro powered cars. lol It looks like fun though...

My brother has one of those and is very good with it. Expensive learning curve though!

Related to RC, I have an RC plane in my garage that I never had time to learn to fly. I had a friend fly it for a summer, though. Anyone got any idea what boards I could post that for sale? It's just taking up space hanging from the ceiling.

al's hobby is a great place if you live close to elmhurst. the one nice thing about al's hobby is if you buy the kit there, and it's a kit they are familar with, chances are when you need parts to fix it they will have them or get them very fast.

and for those of you that have not ever tried RC, if you though motorcycles were expensive, just wait...

Especially when the radio goes out of range and your car/truck slams into a curb creating a huge explosion. lol (hasn't happened to me, yet) The hobby store i go to is in Buffalo Grove called Venture Hobbies. This place has everything, and i mean EVERYTHING. Plenty of replacement parts, kits, planes, copters, engines, etc. I get all my stuff from there, plus, they tune your cars for free. (last time i was there.) You guys know of any tracks around here? Only one i knew of was in niles (Hobbytown USA) but that place closed down earlier this year..

Bahhhhhh support your local hobby shops Crazy. There are only two good ones in my opinion around here. Al's and the one where I work on the weekend Venture Hobbies. The Micro heli learning curve is very dependent on how cheap and fragile of a machine you get. We sell hundreds of a machine called the Blade CP, $220 and the most expensive replacent part is the blades at like $13 a pair. I fly the shit out the stores and it is awesome, crashed it straight into the front windows one time, picked it up and flew it again.

Wink, Venture Hobbies does consignment sales for people and I am guessing your trainer would go pretty quickly if you priced it resonably. We are up in Wheeling on Dundee, not to far from Barrington.

lol...no thanks. I sit on my couch and wait the 2 whole days it takes to ship and pay 10-20% less.

I still go to the locals when I need something fast for the planes. Some of the little stuff isn't worth having shipped anyway.

I am not going to turn this into an argument about how you should support local hobby shops just like you should support board sponsers. Venture Hobbies and I am pretty sure Al's as well prices all big ticket and most other common over $30 parts at the towerhobbies price. Your 10-20% less doesn't fly. But end of the rant mode.

That comment wasn't meant to be argumentative. Trust me, I check out the locals when I buy. It just so happens that Tower almost always has about the same price as the locals minus shipping. They also almost always have some kind of deal where you can save $30 of orders of $225 or more or something to that effect. My plane motor I got for almost half what Liesure wanted. I don't know about your shop so I can't say. But I'm not driving all the way up there either when I can get things shipped to my door for less or equal
