Talking best summer riding jacket?

Hi
What jacket do you all recommend for safe summer riding? I know Joe Rocket is popular and I saw some ads for its Phoenix but there seem to be so many other brands available that its tough to decide.

I am new to sportbikes and this will be my first sportbike jacket ever. All I have right now are normal leather jackets(no armor) .

Joe Rocket Mesh is what I wear for regular cruising. If you are going to RIDE, get leather. I have three levels; cruise (mesh), RIDE (leather), Race/Track (full one-piece leathers)

Full Perf Leather..Screw the mesh jackets.. False sense of security

Like I said, at least you are wearing something. Mesh is not safe... so, if you are out with your Harley buds... that is the one since they are wearing a cute leather vest and a doorag. If you are RIDING, leather.

I went down in my Phoenix jacket and it held up fine from 40-50mph, but maybe I just got lucky. I like the Phoenix and I got it for $50 from New Enough, so I couldn't complain about the price, but my one complaint is that while it's nice and cool during our lovely 100 degree days, when it gets to 70 degrees at night and I'm without a fairing, I get pretty cold on longer trips.

Does perforated leather have the same effect?

Damn! I just bought a joe rocket mesh on ebay after reading the post .
I do have 3 leather jackets but none with armor.
The only thing about leather that I didn't like was - it gets so hot it's enough to scare you off riding. So maybe mesh could be a good compromise buy. In any case now the money is spent.

What are some good perf leather jackets?

I have a full perf vanson and love the jacket. It's like not even wearing one. They also have the vest to put in for cooloer nights but I don't have that.

The only reason I have the mesh is for days when I won't go riding in my leather full perf. Last time it was that hot, I wore nothing... and of course, crashed. Now at least no matter what, I always have something on. Not much, but a lot better than nothing with the mesh.

Yea it does. Mine was like a $4-500 jacket. So that is a good price.

I think I would melt in leather in the summer. Its tough enough for me with the Fieldsheer textile jacket Ive got now.

I have Vanson Supermoto jacket for summer days and it does its job very well. When I'm moving it's next to wearing nothing. It is a combination of leather with mesh panels. I crashed at 60-70 mph and it held up very well (gravel cut through one layer of leather on the elbow but the second layer and the armor stayed intact). Bought it at CCC for $400 about two years ago.

Here's it:

BTW, the thing about Vanson - it felt stiff as a board at first and was relatively uncomfortable off the bike. However, it felt great on the bike right away and became supple as a second skin after a few months of use.

My next jacket is going to be Kevlar mesh, though. For the sceptical - I wore Motoport (now Cycleport) Kevlar Mesh pants during the abovementioned crash and they took a beating, but held up better than the jacket. They didn't even wear through! And they're so well ventilated they're better than jeans.

Another thing about the mesh jackets - trying wearing UnderArmour ColdGear on slightly colder days. From my experience, it keeps you relatively cool up to 85 and warm down to 65.

+1

My jacket is full perf leather. And yeah, it's still pretty hot when the temp gets above 90 but I wouldn't trust any other jacket. When it gets that hot I hide in my basement with the A/C cranked anyway

But otherwise the jacket is good from anywhere from 40 degrees, (with a windbreaker over it), up to 90 degrees. That's probally 75% of the days out of the year. So it gets an A+ from me

There was a post here a few days ago about the superior abrasion characteristics of Corona Wife Beater tank tops, might want to check that out.

Seriously, though, go with a full perf leather. Also my Joe rocket replica has nice venting in it for a non-perf jacket, and the cloth panels inside the arm breath pretty good. Still not as cool as my full perf AGV jacket. I like the vanson full perfs too.
