It looks like it is tracking south of us. I don't think we'll get any rain today.

I think you are looking at the composite reflectivity, that's why you see so much precip headed toward us. If you look at the base reflectivity you'll see the rain is heading south of us and the precip heading in our direction is dissapating as it crosses the mighty Mississip.

Composite Reflectivity: This display is of maximum echo intensity (reflectivity) from any elevation angle at every range from the radar. This product is used to reveal the highest reflectivity in all echoes. When compared with Base Reflectivity, the Composite Reflectivity can reveal important storm structure features and intensity trends of storms.

Base Reflectivity: The base reflectivity image currently available on this website is from the lowest "tilt" angle (0.5°). This means the radar's antenna is tilted 0.5° above the horizon.

Base shows what's actually hitting the ground and Composite shows what's up there in the sky. I use it to tell me what's going on in thunderstorms.

The colors on the map indicate water vapor returns measured in decibles (dBz). Doppler Radar is high powered microwaves (similar to what you have in your kitchen). It's tuned just to see water returns so the higher the dbz the more water that's in the air.

To compare it to what you see in the real world. Blue is barely misting. Green's are drizzle, yellow is rain, and orange to red are heavy showers which usually indicate thunderstorms. That's during the summer. In the winter I can tell you where it is snowing... snow looks differerent than rain on the doppler.

It's looking like we might, but I still think it'll start disappating when it gets over central IL.
