New BMW 3 series coming out looks damn good

Came across this car:
http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/futur...3coupe/default

I've never really taken the 3 series seriously. They've always been underpowered for their price I thought and were outperformed by my 350Z. But it looks like the new model due out in Sept has got it down a bit better, starting with the twin turbo on the 335. My guess is going to be a $45-$48k price tag. I don't even wanna know what the V8 M3's are going to be...it will only upset me.

Yeah it kind of looks like a cross between the new 6 & 7 series... Not a huge fan at this point... 300hp turbo on the CI, that is impressive.

I'm no BMW expert but I think the last time they did a turbo was in the 70's with the 2002 Tii

This car scares my C32 more than the current M3. Factory Turbos Have a lot of power potential.

They need to do a better job with suspension/tires/trans on the CI's to compete with the current M3's IMO.

Umm, correct me if i'm wrong, but the reason why the M is produced is because of the parts named above. I'll pass on all those cars above. give me an older M5 and call it a day. I'll even settle for a 540Sport.

Give the 335 to a tuner and it will beat the v8 m3 easy. Just some bigger turbos and you will be outputting double the stock horsepower easily. So for the m3 to compete it has to be in the 500 hp range.

Give me a hummer while I'm driving the 335 too...that's good for a couple ponies at least.

I read a while back in Motor Trend that the reason that BMW is going to a Turbo platform is to cut down the size of the engine (better gas mileage) but not loose out on the power. Since these new engines are Direct Injected there is no turbo lag like the turbo engines from a few years ago.

I do NOT like the current trend of BMW's styling department.

The new G35 sedan looks sweet, though. Like a small Infiniti M....

Is that a finalized '07 design??? Any details on the motor?

Direct injection doesn't eliminate lag. The fact that it is an inline six with two smaller turbos is the reason why you feel no lag. The lag is caused because the turbo is exhaust driven... there will always be lag in a turbo.

Bimmer has had some significant issues in the first 1-2 years of recent introductions of new cars. I would hold off at least a year.

Of course, that's what the warranty is for but nobody wants their 40k+ car in the shop all the time.

+1. Although, i'd give my left thumb and right testicle for the new M5. I saw the M6 last week and looks JUST like the 645, except for the rear valence. (Not even any fender flares) I guy on another board hates the fact that the new M5 has this black box that sends info to the dealer on the on goings of the vehicle. Even shows when he has over heated his rotors lol.

well a shitty ass 330, or 318 of course.. but the M3 is for sure a class above the 350z. Personally i dont consider a non-M car even close to a "sports coupe".

of course the Ms are almost double the price.. worth every penny if i could afford one

4-door 335 on order...... says it's rocketship.

Silky smooth - hand of god on your backside kind of rocketship.

Mag tests thus far peg it as fast as the current M3 but less fussy.

It's also bigge rinside than a 350Z / G35 in a nice kind of way.

Sounds like the new 3-series and M3 have stepped it up a notch. Since we live in the midwest though, I'd still go with a 2007 Audi RS4 instead. Unfortunately, I'd also have to get rid of both bikes and my suv...$$$

Not sure, I'd like to take it for a spin of course. My guess is that dealers ain't gonna be budging from sticker by much since it's a new model. I'll have to look into it and see since it may very well be worth it to wait for next year too.

As for the M3, yea I wouldn't even want to know how much the new V8's are gonna run. Would be nice, except for the price. Same goes for the RS4.

Thats not a fair comparison, the M3 design is years old! & the 2 different engines! Wait till the new M3 comes out, then it will be V8 vs. V8, although AWD is sweet.
