WTF Need computer Hardware Help

So I installed a 500gb interanl hard drive as a slave to my other harddrive which is also 500gb. I plugged everything in put the computer back together, fired it up, formatted the drive. transfered the neccerary files, and every thing is great again.

But now everytime I put a cd or dvd in it shut the computer down, and restarts. Almost like a power surge.... Is is possibe i am overloading my power supply????or is there something else going on

how large is your power supply? i highly doubt this is the issue... i'd check to see that you didn't accidently loosen any wires....

to test the power supply issue... unplug the slave and fire it up see if it happens again... if so... go buy your self an external drive " enclosure" they're like 20 bucks for a nice aluminum one keeps the drive cool and they usually have their own power.

Re-seat all cables on all devices (data and power cables).

A fritzy power supply can cause you a lot of grief. You don't even have to be 'overloading' it for it to ruin your day.

What kind of cpu/fan u got, what kind of vide card and how many devices plugged (including case fans), and what's drawing power off the usb bus?

Everyone Exaggerates

I have a radeon(?) vid card, 2 500 gb hard drives, 1 dvd burner, 1 cd burner, 3.5" floppy and a zip disk. I also have a beefed up sound card I cant remember what and a firewire card. It has two small fans and its running a pentuim 1.8 on an asus board. I opened it up again and pulled all the wires and reconnected everything... Well see if it helps, I also disconnected my zip dirve cause i never use it.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!
