Black Friday thread

Well thought I'd post some deals for those interested, this site seems to cover a lot...

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/Sales/Store/bestbuy

Now I'm looking at getting a TV and this'll be my first time ever actually shopping on that day. Is it really that chaotic? Folks lining up at 2am and what not? After talking to a couple people and telling them that I'd come in around noon or whenever to get the tv, they said it would be long gone. Hell they said 5am might be too late! Anyone gone through this? Maybe I don't shop enough or whatever, but it seems extreme to me. This ain't like kids waiting in line to get a PS3, is it?

The only crap that flies out the door at 5am or whenever the store opens is the crap that is "free after rebate", stuff that people actually have to pay for sometimes takes hours to sell. But don’t worry; your copy of Janet Jackson 20 Y.O. CD & Justin Timberlake FutureSex should still be there when you wake up at the crack of 2pm.

So what are you actually trying to buy?

Ok, I only heard of this 'black friday' just a few years ago. But I've worked every year on that day, nor do I generally care about getting deals on stuff that I never planned on buying in the first place. I've been searching for tv's for a while and best buy's deal is about $600 less than I found it any other possible place. That's my only reason for considering it. I was thinking it can't be that bad until a buddy of mine told me some old lady elbowed him and shoved him out of the way just to get some electronic gadget. I'm outta touch I guess.

Can ya get it for $1200? Dude, back when I worked as a pc tech about 10 years ago at Best Buy I got a few shirts. I'm thinking that I go see if I can dig one up and sneak in at the front of the line!

man... you'll have to be one of the first 15 or so ppl at that store to get one of the real black friday deals. anywhere close to the city and you'll have to get there no later then 10pm and camp out until they open. usually, an employee will go the first few ppl in line and ask what they are planning on buying. if they want the special deals they get a coupon. so running over them to get the item ain't gonna work.

Its a tradition of the wife a I, to get up real early a do some shopping that day. The stores get crowded quick. They only put sales on in stock items, so if you want a TV, ya you better get there early, when it opens is best bet.

Every year there are stories on the news about someone cutting in line and getting clocked for it.

People line up outside the store nice and orderly, but some people wait in their cars, for the doors to open and barge right in. Some stores are getting there stuff together though, and having security out in front.

Best Buy is one of the worst. checkout lines form quickly. Big ticket items may only have 1 available.

Some people know how to work thing though. One person gets in the checkout line while the other shops.

I'm with Jeff on this one. I won't go shopping on that day. I try to have all my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. If I do go out on black Friday it's for entertainment purposes only.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

So the best bet is to call ahead the day before and check their stock.

Yes very little that day is going under the tree. Entertainment only.

I also forgot to mention Springhill Mall in Dundee is open at 1 am.

If you buy the model ahead of time, just have it price adjusted. I do this all the time with stuff from walmart, ect. Then stop in at your leisure that day, get the price adjustment, and go home. I worked for Circuit City for 8 years, and did that all the time.

When I was in highschool I worked at Walmart and we used to put items in different areas for fun electronics in front of papergoods and sporting goods in front of shoes and so forth. People sprint to electronics to find out that the item they looked for was not there. People would be jumping all over each other to grab items. Quite funny. We did make some extra cash in the toy dept. holding the hot toys for the year (tickle me elmo was a good one) for certain well paying individuals. We had normals that would come in for hotwheels and pay us to pull the limited cars and hold them for them as we unpacked them.

Be sure to watch the times when you do this. In the Circuit City ad, for example, some of their items are from 5am to 11am. So going in at your leisure may not work, watch what times during that day things are on sale.

Hey thanks much for the suggestion of price matching. Ordered the tv online and it'll be delivered next Thursday. On top of that I called Best Buy corporate to verify and the guy on the phone said that in order to get the price match, I don't even have to come into the store...just call in and they'll credit me right over the phone. Though now I'm all hyped up about seeing a thousand people shoving each other outta the way and might go just for the entertaining experience later in the day
