Very cheap GPS units, refurb

Found this on Buy.com I have always been a Garmin man but this one looks nice and it was 1k originally! No idea of how it rates but thought someone may like it.

Seems like a very good deal, but I have to laugh at the "list price" that Buy.com claims; they always do that

Yeah, the list seems high. It was that high about 1-2 years ago though. I know because I almost bought one back then.

My wife bought that same unit for me for my birthday in 05 and it cost her a little under 1k. I use the thing all the time and it absolutely flat out rocks.

All I have to say is....I wish I could return mine and get one at this price

btw, they are all over ebay for about the same price if buy.com runs out. I've been watching for a cheap deal for my wife.

OK, can anyone tell me what is the difference between the 760 and the 700? Is it worth $44 more? I'm still looking for one for the wife.

Well I just used mine for the trip to Florida and it rocks. Thanks for the heads up on the cheap price. It is worth every penny and I will get alot of use out of it. I have wanted one for a while and this one is perfect for me. It ended up being the perfect size for me and is very easy to use.

Good to hear that. Since no one jumped in with differences, I think I spotted it. The 760 seems to have an advanced auto re-route to get you around stalled traffic and an IR link to addresses from a pda. It has auto dim too. I didn't notice anything else.

Is Garmin the best?

What about Tom Tom or the others?

Anyone have an "official" review site (CNET etc.) the lists why one is better than another.

Thanks for any help. . .

Never tried any of the other brands but I can honestly say I am 120% happy with my Garmin. Was watching the military channel a few days ago and noticed our troops were also using Garmin products Good enough for me!

Well this unit is paying for itself Had a guy from work just give me $25 to use mine for the weekend to New Orleans. so I am below the $200 mark Twisted it is well worth it I would get it if you have the extra scratch laying around. I have wanted one for a long ass time but could rationalize spending $800 for one. Once this came along I jumped on it.

Funny story.

Buy.com for reason's unknown said I wasn't verified so they didn't ship my original order and the reversed out my charge. After 4 emails to them, I gave up on fixing the order and just re-ordered it so I would catch the $50 rebate. Sooo, a couple days later guess what shows up? Yep 2 of them. After checking PayPal only had 1 net charge. Being me, I sent another email and finally called customer service and spent 35 minutes trying to get them to understand that I got a freebie and was just trying to get one back to them. They finally "got it" and sent me a restock deal with a UPS label. End of story, I did the "right" thing even though it was a pain in the ass.

Guess what showed up on Monday? Yep #3. I shot them another pointed and detailed email and they just referred back to my prior restock. Now I refuse to spend another 30 minutes on hold to try to get the morons to fix their error a 3rd time. I figure I'll put it on a shelf and hope they figure it out on their own. If not, I guess I have a spare.

Now, as far as the 760 goes. It is a very nice unit. Grace really likes it and it seems to perform as well as the built in unit in my Q45. There are mild differences in how it displays the route and the screen is smaller, but everything works well and the screen is easy to read. It does seem to take a little longer to acquire satellites, but it's not too bad. I think it's d/t the location of the antenna.

Thanks G2G! I've wanted one for a while and it is cool that the prices are coming down. I trust the Garmin name but having been in sales most of my professional life I want to educate myself before making the purchase. I hate buying something on a whim and then finding out a month or two later I could have had a better product for the same ammount of cash.

Keep the info and opinions coming!

Just bought this GPS nav unit (has LCD & voice directions) for $199.99 from Staples. It's nics and small and hopefully fit on the bike. Will see how good it is.

Staples - Mio DigiWalker C310x GPS Navigation System - $199.99

Links for the unit:

Note: It's not available online anymore. Call your local Staples. Generally, they get their deliveries on Wed.

They should only be $199? Which Staples has them in stock? My local Staples said they are out of them, and so are all the other ones. Hmmmm? Try ordering online from Frys, they are taking orders, but don't have them in stock yet. I called and they said they are supposed to get a shipment in the next few days and will honor the online price. http://shop3.outpost.com/product/499...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

They were $150 on black Friday.

It doesn't rate this unit, only the expensive name brand ones. Every review I have read on this unit is very positive. There are even hacks for it so you can use it as a PDA.
