Is this stealing? Morality question

I placed an order with CycleGear.com on October 15th for a set of Pirelli Diablos at a killer price of $159, there was a stipulation, it was a pre-order for a sale they were having on the 28th of October. What this meant was that they would take my money now (the 15th) and ship the tires on the 28th. I went ahead and placed my order and the tires arrived on November 4th.

Here's where it gets funny, the UPS guy rings my doorbell last night and drops off a second set of Diablos from CycleGear. At first I wonder weather I ordered one set while drunk to the point of blacking out and just forgot, so I call Visa and they said that there is only one charge on there for CycleGear and it is for one set (169.99 shipped).

After doing a bit of research I find out that the two sets of tires came from two seperate warehouses one in Cali the other in Tennessee, so I think it came down to a shipping error on their end (maybe they oversold their stock and didn't think that I got the first set). Also, they misspelled my last name on the shipping invoice of one of the sets, it's still my name, just spelled very differently.

So my question is, do I call them up and return the second set of tires or do I keep them and call it a day? Guide me CLSB

BING.

Technically though, it's not stealing... but you also were sent something in error that you did not pay for.

Turn it around:

If you sent a payment to a company and it went to another by mistake (say you transposed a digit) and they kept it would you be pissed or would you want them to return the $$ so you can get it all straightened out and on its way to where it belongs?

Everyone Exaggerates

That's what I'm thinking, as Tony pointed out, Karma is a bitch and I don't need that weighing on my mind now. I could have made one hell of a burnout video from one of those rears though...

They'll figure out the mistake and ask for it back, I'm sure. I had theame thing happen to me with a speedymoto clutch plate for my old SS. They accidentally shipped one, and had another drop shipped from the mfr. They figured it out and gave me a call on it. I'm glad i didn't carry out my original plan to fleabay the second one.

I'd call them and see where the mistake was, but I would send them back. Put yourself in their shoes. Someone could get in a lot of trouble for sending out a set of tires and not getting paid for them. Do the right thing.

I recently got second used ($200) 8-tape autoloader library from ebay this way. I couldn't believe it when UPS guy dropped off the box and I read the shipper's name. Checked with PayPal & credit card - only one charge. Trying to be honest (and not needing second huge, heavy and noisy POS) I wrote seller an email and contacted via ebay describing the situation and promising to ship it back to them provided they would pay the shipping charges. They never got back to me and I didn't push. It's been about a month now, so I figure I will just hook it up.

You are going to need them anyway soon enough. Keep them, if they charge you for the other set, fine, if not, who cares. Just be ready and willing to pay for the other set if they figure out they fucked up.

It depends how you look at when it comes to karma. Looking at it this way is not bad karma.

Keep the tires.

For being honest, they may just tell you to keep them. Some places will actually do that.

You may wind up with 2 sets *AND* a clear conscious.

Ask some track racers / day goers how many sets of tires they go through per year. You WILL NEED those tires soon enough. And for the price, you can't go wrong.
