It's a long boring flight. Bring somthing to do on the plane. If your flying over the night bring somthing to rest your head on those in-flight pillows suck. Pray that it's not sold out and grab 2 seats. Drink lots of water. Bring noise cancelling headphone if you got em.

Stuff i travel with: Laptop, MP3 player, Book, Sudoku puzzle book, one of those inflatible C pillow things, and I used to bring a bottle of water.

If your traveling with someone a deck of cards is good times.

Now a days most planes have those TV sets in the seat infront of you so you can always watch movies.

For regular class (or whatever the different airlines call it) depending on how soon in advance you book, flights can be from $500 to $1000 round trip.

Be careful not to look like an American tourist. If you're going to look like an American tourist, take a money belt. Nix the purse (Nick).

Check Orbitz.com for flights. Great deals and the customer service is the best in the industry.

I'd say go to a local travel agent and see what they can do for you. When I went to Poland last year I looked @ all the .COMs (Travelocity, Orbitz and 1 other one) and everyone was at least $50 higher than the T-A and had really shitty layovers (Granted I was flying a bit further than the UK so you save quite a bit with a lay-over flight). SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) had some really modern planes with a built-in LCD into each seat (economy class) with over ½ dozen movies you could choose from, built in games, plane camera forward & down (really flippin cool), food was damn good too.

EDIT: Oh and look as Un-American as possible and never mention where you are from to people you don't know.

The built in LCD with movies and games is common in other airlines as well.

Flight time to London is about 7 hours (8 hours coming back). Sleep as much as you can on the flight. It helps with the jet lag. No one is going to fuck with you if you fall asleep. Half the plane is asleep at any given time.

I was in Germany last week and I had to stop to change planes in London once going there and once coming back.

Heathrow Airport in London is a big mess, even though all the airlines allow two pieces of luggage, Heathrow only allows one piece of luggage per person though their airport security.

So if you bring two pieces of luggage as carry on, like a bag and a purse, make sure you are able to consolidate in to one piece before entering the security line or they will make you check one of the bags. What a big mess that is

I flew round trip to London Heathrow on Air India for $410 including tax... the food was incredible, the smell was terrible, but the liquor was free and I had a nice conversation with a gentleman from Delhi about Bengal tigers.

Put yourself in a calm state of mind. Realize that the more agitated you get on the plane, the worse it will be for you. When you can get out of your seat and walk around.

Man, you are all a bunch of sallys. This trip is like 7-8 hours, that's nothing. I've sat through flights almost twice as long in coach, stuck between kids and an old guy with a bladder the size of a pea, no sweat. A flight to the UK is cake, don't worry about it.

Which airport are you flying to? Will you be in London or near Manchester? Have a Boddingtons for me...
