Costco Members, Plasma Buyers...under $1000

Black Friday Deal...NOTE, this is a 720p TV, NOT 1080!!!!

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/16/v...-black-friday/

you have been warned...

From the engadget.com website...

Postscript: When this article went live, no stats had been released on this newer VP42 model at Vizio's website. As a few commentors have noted, the native resolution on this set is only 1024x768 (as compared to the more-normal 1366x768 for its sibling the P42), which is slightly less than the commonly-accepted resolution of 1280x720 for HDTV, meaning it will scale all your content down to this XGA resolution. This means the pixels also have a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than 16:9. While the set is widescreen, the pixel count will not be, so take that as you will, we just wanted everyone to be informed consumers. Good luck this Friday, and thanks to all the comments that brought this important point to our attention!

But it's 720P. Not worth it.

if you dont currently have a decent tv, want something wall mountable, and can last several years then it is worth it.

But what do you watch? First I'll assume that you're talking 1080i vs 720p, which...if you're lucky, you'll be able to spot a difference. If anything, 720p on faster motion such as sports or video games will outperform 1080i. If you're talking 1080p, then of course the bucks go up. About a $1k difference last time I checked. But nothing uses 1080p at this time except for video game consoles. Many of the 1080p tvs are upscales of 1080i from what I read. Meaning that they won't even take a direct 1080p connection, but will take a 1080i.

+1 720P is still a great picture and way better than SDTV. You can pick up an Upconvert DVD player for $100 and be watching DVDs in HD. This is something not a lot of people realize, HD-DVD and Blu Ray are 1080P, a higher resolution than most people's TVs are capable of, even HDTVs. So instead of dropping $500 on an HD-DVD or Blu Ray player, pick up a 720P TV, an Upconvert DVD player and use it until the 1080P TVs have settled in price and either HD-DVD or Blu Ray has won the format war, you certainly wont lose much money this way and you'll have a nice TV in the interim.

This statement is misleading. You'll be able to watch 480p content scaled to HD resolutions but it's hardly HD.
