EDTV=format, aka it's equal to the best signal a DVD player can produce, not as good as HDTV.

LCD like computer monitors, if they have alot of natural light in the room an LCD makes sense, doesn't have as much glare as plasma

Plasma, still probably has the best picture, however in a room with alot of natural light has a problem with glare.

both excellent options, also there are DLP sets, CRT sets, etc. Are they looking for a smaller TV? if so I would recommend an LCD

Get a Sharp Aquios 2X" LCD HDTV flat panel and either a Samsung 40" LCD flat panel, or a Panasonic 42" HDTV Plasma.

I think I am gonna pick up this for the upstairs (this way my brands match ):

-but I am concerned with glare though because we have a southern exposure.

I'd recommened the 42" Panny ED if you want to spend under $999, it's almost as good as the HD. As much as I love mine, I'd personally drop the extra $500 and get the 42" HD Panny
