What's up everybody? Mobilization Update

Just wanted to drop back in and say hello

I've been out here at Port Hueneme, CA for about 3 weeks now mobilizing for our deployment to Iraq. Lots of medical crap and admin stuff the first week, but after that it's been taking classes to get trained to deploy.

Finished up a Basic Combat Skills-1 class last week. Good info, but all classroom. The BCS-2 class next week is the hands-on portion, so that will be much better.

This week I'm in class for the M240B Machine Gun. This---> This is the classroom portion where we'll be learning the weapon, but then next weekend, we get to go to the range at Fort Hunter-Liggett for 3 days for live-fire training and qualification. After a day of practice, I can actually do a field strip and reassembly in 1min20 sec. One of the instructors has the record of around 37 seconds...Dam! I attached some pictures for the gun freaks on here.

When we go to the range, I'm taking the video camera. They do a night fire demonstration with tracer rounds. For those that know, it's a demonstration of Final Protective Fire.

That's about it for an update. Just bored as hell in the barracks.

Okay...it's not letting me do attachments. I think it's my connection speed.

I guess my connection went to shit

Here's some pics from the last three weeks.

1.) Outside the armory after picking up the M240B (Replaced the M60)
*That's one heavy SOB. NOT a shoulder fired weapon
2.) My new desktop background.
3.) Playing around during lunch in class.
4.) My normal after hours e-mail spot...the barracks.

When I get over there, I should end up with the M240B Machine Gun, an M16-A3, and a Barreta M9. Our platoon is going to be the security element for the company while we're working outside the wire. I will bounce between Fire Team Leader and Gunner positions for the machine gun emplacement/post.

Not a real comforting thought for where we're going, but at least it won't be boring.

Boring would be ideal under these circumstances, though.

so they replaced the m60 huh?...kinda dumb cause the m60 could be carried around easily...its a mobile offensive/defensive weapon...the new one looks like its more of a defensive/offensive weapon instead making the ability to carry it around much more difficult...i know when i humped the m60 around...if i needed to, i could have that sucker up and on full auto in less then 5 seconds...if the new one is that much more of a pain in the ass to get going due to its weight...its definatly more a defensive weapon....

be safe man...keep us updated....

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

I remember getting to play with the 240G. That thing was a blast to shoot. Almost fun enough to make it worth humping all over Camp Pendleton.

The 240B is only about 4 pounds heavier than the M60, so portability isn't too bad. The way it's set up in the picture, I have it on the tripod base with the T/E assembly. As shown it would be a defensive weapon used with a fighting position. If you pull the pin on the T/E, it slides right out of the tripod mount, and then it becomes an offensive weapon using the bipod mounted on the ball joint below the gas collar.

Most of the use we'll have over in Iraq will either be an upmounted one in a Humvee, or a fixed position providing security for the SeaBee work crew outside the wire. I honestly don't see us doing patrols with the 240B, but it does have a sling, so we could if we had to. I think the M240G is the patrol version for the Marine Corps.

The way things are going over there, I'm not sure. Supposed to be 6 months in country, but the orders say they can extend us up to 24 months
