question for headhunters and recruiters

I am interviewing for a sales/software demo position tomorrow in NYC. I was told for the first time this morning they expected a presentation in the interview. Is it me or is this a little late to be telling me this?

You've got plenty of time to work that out on the plane ride man.

Just present an essay about what you did last summer in powerpoint form. That should scare the bejesus out of em!

If you wind up moving to NYC - can I have your SV? Thanks bud. You're aces.

In sales, enough time to boot your laptop should be enough notice. Pick any presentation that you are comfortable with, rehearse it in your head on the way there.

Knock 'em dead.

Good Luck!

They probably operate in the Dilbert-mode of 90% BS, 10% familiarity with the product. Hence the need for most technical sales associates to be accompanied by a Sales Field Engineer or Sales Support Engineer nowadays.

They're probably scoping out your BS, er I mean creativity skills. Knock em dead. If that doesn't work, show up with Hookers/Strippers. Don't those items usually seal a deal?

Pfff...whatever. Everyone knows you just dab some rhino liner in there and move along. Tolerances schmolerances.

Bottcher has a real problem on his hands here. Does sex really sell? Or should he press the value statement of "I'm short enough to sneak into the boardroom" ?

These are the real questions.

(and fyi - sex sells awesome)

I already made the mistake of telling them I would not have enough time to create a presentation prior to the interview. I was pissed they waited until the last minute to tell me. I'm not to happy with telling them that or the way I said it so I guess I can kiss this opportunity good bye.

I guess I wasn't that interested because going to the gym tonight is more important than preparing for the interview.

The whole point could have been to see how you do unprepared and on your toes. It's not uncommon to be in those sorts of unprepared situations and you need to perform for the betterment of the company.

WHAT?!?! You can't create a presentation in that amount of time?

Did you go to college? I've put together amazing presentations in 24 hours or less.
How much freakin' time do you need?

I'm working on it between meetings and surfing the web. I'm also working on updating my resume.

It's hard to get motivated when the the pay grade of the position is less then what I am currently making. They should have told me more about the bonus if they wanted to motivate me.

Mix the content. Make sure some will keep a geek interested yet make the whole thing 'seem' simple enough (usually with good intro and conclusion) that grandma wants to buy one. She'll forget all about the techno mumble jumble in the middle.

That way you can appeal to both the detailed oriented as well as the 'just make me want to say YES' crowd.

Screw all this - It is a tactic that has been used for yrs - Suprise him and make him think on his feet to see how he reacts in the real world - You want to win 'em over? Keep your PPT to a min and "Speak" to them rather than read from a PPT slide - I have sat through many of these and the eager candidate comes in with an AMAZING PPT with graphs and ani and all but tells me nothing - A couple of bullet points and "speaking points" and sell YOU, not your presentation - PM me if you want and I'll give ya a number to call me at and we can discuss - These are not that uncommon

Thats hilarious. I may just have to order that. I hate business speak, and for that matter khacki pants. I work out of paneras all over the area, (as I am right now) and I have to listen to these mind numbing sales people spew this shit amongst thier colleagues while stuffing thier face with bagels and surfing youtube to look busy. They annoy the hell out of me.

It is a GREAT book. I enjoyed it from the first page through the last. To be honest, it helped me to get rid of some trendy BS that I learned working as a consultant. I have a copy, you can borrow it if you'd like.

although I will be hiring one of those khacki pants guys to sell my services when I start my company, you guys do get things done. I'm more of a flannel shit, jeans, work boots and electricians snips on my belt kinda guy
So keep your eyes open I may have some synergistic opportunities, or how ever your guys say that shit, available for one of you guys in the next few years.

This is a lie as you can never actually achieve absolute zero, and no 0.000001 K is not absolute zero!
