Need an OTA HD Antenna

A buddy of mine purchased an HDTV for this weekend, but Comcast is unable to come out early enough to install an HD box.

He has a small HD indoor antenna that does not receive CBS well.

His zip code is 60526 and www.antennaweb.org shows CBS listed in dark green on their channel list for that area code.

Any recommendations for a more powerful antenna?

Thanks!

Just make a parabolic reflector for it. Shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks. Just use some chickenwire.

Use this as a template

It's Lagrange Park...

And this guy can't even plug in his own component cables let alone make a parabolic reflector

Tell him to just wrap an umbrella in aluminum foil and put it on the roof.

Does putting it in the attic work as well as installing it on the roof?

Ok Macgyver

yes attic will be fine since your soo close to the city.

La grange park should get great reception on channel 2, I grew up in Lagrange, we an an off the air antenna and it worked great. Just throw one like I linked above up in the attic and run and RG-6 line down to the tuner input on the tv and do a channel search. you should be good to go.

Alright, he's on his way to Radio Shack to pick one up. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll let you know how it works for him.

Does the TV have the HD tuner built in?

Some tv's are HD ready ie can show 1080i or p but not receive the signal. You may need to get the hd receiver.

before he does all that have him plug the cable DIRECTLY into the TV and search the channels. Comcast sends the HD signal along the pipe, but they hide it in weird channels.

Here is a thread containing the info...

Hmm, I'll have him try that.

He just called me, Radio Shack was out of the 5ft antenna. He bought a 9ft one I told him to try that cable thing first though.

Thanks!
