Update on " BLUE" My new.. Puppy

I had to add a few pics of BLUE.. he is 10 weeks as of today. Getting his ears cropped this coming Thursday, from what I hear its done with a lazer. So no bandages, and ears will stand-up from the get-go. I cannot believe how well he is doing with his potty training and just general obedience.. just had to share.

GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ears will stand up no matter what on pits, because they're cropped so short.

Wow -I love that color. And they look even better uncropped, especially if the dog will not be shown. Just my opinion.

My 8 year old brindle AmStaff looks fantastic w/her natural rose petal ears.

Actually they are not going to be cropped with the "normal" Pitt look.. I dont like then that short.. this is the cut that I am going to get..

I had a Pitt b4.. he was 14 years old when he passed, and he was always prone to ear infections. The Vet even recommended it.. and I like the look of them longer as in the pic above ..

I wouldn't crop them at all because I think it's an inhumane thing to do to a dog just for looks. Most vets won't crop ears, and it's banned almost everywhere except for the U.S.

As I mentioned, they become prone to ear infections, at least my last one did. I would rather crop them then have him scratch, get ear mites, and generally irritate hm for the rest of his life. So no it is not just for looks. I dont like the short stubby look either, so I am going with the longer crop as in that pic. The Vet who is going it does it for Show Dogs.. but to each his own... I guess..

I don't think he asked for anyones opinion about the ear cropping

And yes it is done for medical reasons also as he stated.

That is been debated ad nauseum for years. There is no medical proof that dogs with cropped ears are any less (or more) prone to ear infections as uncropped dogs.

Quote:
On July 9, 1999, the American Veterinary Medical Association released the following:

Ear cropping and tail docking in dogs for cosmetic purposes are not medically indicated nor of benefit to the patient. These procedures can cause pain and distress, and as with all surgical procedures, are accompanied by inherent risks of anesthesia, blood loss, and infection. Therefore, veterinarians should counsel dog owners about these matters before agreeing to perform these surgeries.

Good luck with him. I had my dogs ears done and had no problems with infections or itching. If you know what you want as a ear crop bring some pictures to the vet who is doing the operation. I did this and my dog's ears turned out to what I was looking for. I'd post a picture of him but I'm not sure how to. Nice color on the pup as well. Mark

Thats a Great looking dog...

I have 2 dogs ones 100% pitt(the puppy) and the other is half pitt half rott(5 yr old)

I rescued the puppy from an organization in Indiana... if anyone is interested in the information let me know... She was like 4 months old when we got her... little timid if you yell but she hasn't shown any signs of aggression outside of playing around with the older dog or me...

Sorry I think it's inhumane as well and pointless. My dog's ears weren't cropped and she has NEVER had an ear infection (she's a full blown pit as well). AND she goes swimming, dunks her head completely under water, plays in the mud...you name it. Just some basic pet maintenance (like cleaning the ears every once in awhile) is all that's needed. Plus I think they are SO much more adorable with their floppy ears.

cute puppy though...

i guess i am doing something wrong then because no matter how much i clean my rott's ears he's always sensitive and scratches

not a pit, but it's still really aggravating, and im thinking the closed environment isn't exactly helping
