40 Car Pile Up on I-355 ???

Just got word of this. Any truth to it?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I just got back from I-355 (Buffalo Grove to Bolingbrook offices), and it was REALLY dangerous. I counted 6 spinouts. I didn't go above 35 mph and the traction was terrible. I white knucked it all the way here and my stomach is still in a knot.

What will rush hour be like?

Hey, everybody post up what sports car you have! It's relevant within the context of poor winter weather/bad traction!

oh pleeze! I was driving around in a RWD car last year with Nitto DR's (all the way around mind you) with a car that pushed 320hp (probably around 260 to the wheels). This is nothing! Just a matter of controling your lead foot!

Actually it is! higher powered cars with RWD have a much harder time getting traction than an equivalent AWD/FWD. The fact that these cars usually come with wider tires doesn't help either, because wide tires don't cut through snow to pavement well. Its the same principle as snow shoes, spreading the weight over a wide area prevents sinking. Not sinking through to pavement means SLIDE!

I've got a winter car (thank goodness!!) so I don't have to drive my Porsche in weather like this.

I checked traffic.com and it said there's a 30 car pile-up on the Tri-State near the Ogden ramp.

Stay safe out there. I have been off today and I decided to keep my ass home. Too many idiots out there driving around in SUV's speeding thinking that they can stop quicker than my Hyundai Elantra.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

http://www.nbc5.com/news/10945010/detail.html

A series of crashes on Interstate 294 just south of Ogden Avenue involved as many as 25 cars, according to NBC5's Mike Anzaldi. The Hinsdale Fire Department dispatched at least seven ambulances to the northbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway, where the crash happened around 12:50 p.m.

Several people were pinned in the wreckage and had to be extricated, Anzaldi reported. Several of the vehicles were heavily damaged, and injuries were reported. However, the exact details about the number and extent of injuries have not been released.

Included in the mess of cars, vans and trucks was a PACE bus. One of the emergency exits on the bus was broken open, but officials have not confirmed whether passengers were on the bus when the crash happened.

An Ilinois State Patrol Tollway District dispatcher could not immediately provide information about the number of cars involved or how many people were injured in the crash as of 1:45 p.m.

Only one lane of traffic was getting through at 3 p.m., leading to massive delays that began near the 83rd Street toll plaza for northbound drivers. Southbound traffic was also experiencing gaping delays........................

That's what happens when I stop to take a leak on the side of the road. All those soccer moms in their SUVs couldn't control themselves. They didn't mention it in the news report, but there were $1 bills scattered all over the crash scene.

People in Chicagolalaland need to buy a clue on how to drive in the snow... I had absolutely no problems with the Scion XB and 15" tires...sure I drifted thru a couple of corners....traction control....screaming it's little warning alarm, t'was fun

Throttle steering is fun... People look at you all sorts of goofy when you are drifting corners.

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...
