Stereotyping

I believe it's called Assault. Yeah, should've been some jail time there. Sure, they might not have liked the messages, but it gave them no right at all to attack.
Probably couldn't have called the cops anyways. The cops would probably be the mobs cousin or something. Ha!

+10. Although I am ashamed as an American of what transpired, as Bug has stated, the "right" statement for any given locale, whether in the U.S. or not, would bring about a similar course of events.
Basically, the higher the rate of illiteracy, the higher the likelyhood of this type of reaction.

Bad example. You'd probably get cheered outside of the greater Manchester area. Maybe even in Manchester by Manchester City supporters. Doubly cheered in Liverpool, Leeds, and London.

Having grown up in Alabama, I can tell you from experience that the real issue in this video is not education (or the lack thereof). Of course, the population of rural areas like the south are not going to have the level of education of many other areas of the country simply because the economic situation does not allow small towns to draw the best and the brightest teachers and educational opportunities. However, some of the "best" people in America or even the world are small town people.

The issue is not an educational one per se, but an economic and cultural one.

The issue is that many people in the rural south die within 30 miles of the place where they are born. They are poor, by and large, and do not have the opportunities that many others enjoy.

It is also a cultural thing. There is no traveling around all over the country. A strong sense of "this is my home, this was my daddy's home, this was my Grandaddy's home, etc." is deeply ingrained. It is also a source of identity and a source of pride.

Therefore, naturally, when outsiders come in and are intentionally trying to start drama, the people are not stupid ... they are naturally going to feel offended, feel attacked and react territorially.

Ron,

I hope I did not offend. I know that there are many good people in/from small-town America, not the least of which yourself. I have been lurking around here long enough to form an educated opinion of your personality despite my not having meet you.
That having been said, it is hard to argue with numbers/stats (i.e. lower socioeconomic status usually results in a local community that does not embrace higher education to the extent that a more cosmopolitan/higher income community would).

That's funny...

If they really wanted to get shot they should do the same thing, but they should write racial slurs on their cars and see if they can get from the Sears Tower to the Indiana border on nothing but side roads and going no further west than the Dan Ryan and must obey all speed limits and traffic signs/signals (i.e. Stop signs/lights).

Ron, I know what you mean, but the way you explain it you make it seem like those people were hardly above animals protecting there den. The fact is that territorial or not, throwing rocks at somebody is uncalled for, plain and simple.

And I don't mean to offend, because most people would have acted differently They might have asked that that person not do business there, or even gone out and given them a piece of there mind fine. But for the first reaction to be of violence when none of the people from the show did anything in the slight bit violent against them.

Alabama, or otherwise they way they reacted was uncalled for, period...

above post is my opinion...

I do not see where a higher education is being embraced by the obvious display of bigotry and disdain for regional U.S. institutions by a crew of a TV show from the UK. They caused a scene at a private business for the express purpose of bashing the southern U.S. Christian, Bush voting(as they remarked) locals. This has nothing to do with education. It has everything to do with the disrespect the crew had for the people in the area. With "higher education" should come higher understanding and higher compassion. I saw none of that in the actions of that crew. The locals pelted their cars, not them. I'd say the locals showed more restraint and compassion in their actions. I abhor the smarminess of some of these so-called educated, cosmopolitan style bigots. Their mission was to provoke a scene, make the US look bad and play it up in the UK. Fuck them.

My congrats to the locals for not putting up with it like most would have here in Chicago.

We have so many nutcakes here no one would have even noticed them. They'd have blended right in.

I don't see how writing that on a car justifies bodily harm in a civilized society. They're sports teams and people are entitled to their opinions. I'm not saying they wouldn't get injured as a result but my point is that fact is kind of sad.
