Punk Scene Remembered

WSE's thread on Fetish Bars in the City got me thinking of drug fused days of years gone by before I was a Corp Schmuck answering to a bunch of suits - I never thought I would end up here and I just started remembering how things once were - I was not in the City in these places "Hay Days" but sure as shit I knew about them and would road trip while I was in college in Mich - For a good (long and well detailed) read on the Chicago Punk Scene of yesteryear click the first link - I bought a B & W Print from this guy when he was displaying in Chi a few years back of Henry Rollins and Black Flag at Club 950 in 1981 - I have attached a shitty pic of it but it is a classic - The second link tells of the place where it all began, O'Banions - Man I was born in the wrong era

Owned it on DVD before my last break up - good movie - Had a few "rich kid" friends like that and a few "fuck the machine" types as well - Some are dead, some are doing nothing at all and a few made it out to Corp America like me

I started coming to this town in '90 when I started college in Mich - Moved here in '94 and most of the places were gone by then - 950 was my spot and it was on it's last legs by '97 - NEO, well, if ya gotta ask.....NEO was fun and I really can't get into what we did there - The Artfull Dodger is where we went when we did not want 950 or NEO - We somehow always wound up at Exit by nights end (or mornings beginning)

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how being a member of "Corporate America" is somehow at odds with truely being "punk." How does not living in a gutter and being able to feed yourself and have health insurance somehow make us WASP assholes? Very narrow minded, if you ask me.

But then again, I'm a DK fan that votes Republican, so fuck me I guess.

I am not following here? When I said "Corp America" I meant that me and a few close friends growing up swore that we would never be like our dads and wear suits and work in offices - A few of us did end up doing just that - 2 ended up dead (bike crash while ruding 2 up) and 3 guys I know just kinds float from job to job and all still live together back in Cali - I never used the term WASP or a-hole - I was kinda of making fun of myself for turning into what I swore I never would - Just as you fail to see and call narrow mined, I feel inclined to say the same? As for DK, classic music - They were a bit later in the scene with The Dead Milkmen, Butthole Surfers and Bad Brains - All great bands that put out some serious shit

I was responding to the contingent that thinks it's not cool to shave off the mohawk and get a real job. I'm saying that you shouldn't feel like you are any less "punk" or cool or whatever because you did something with your life. I've known a lot of "punks" who would say that you were a WASP a-hole because you can pay the bills, and I think a lot of quintessential punks are very narrow minded. Enjoy being a punk who can buy as many Black Flag CDs as he wants.

Don't feel bad man. I used to be worried that 3 inches was small, then I found out that ladies like them that wide.
