New C6 vs. 2002 ZO6?

Well I'm doing an idiot check. I figured I'd bounce this off my friends.

I have options on a couple low miles 2002 ZO6s for around $30k.

On the other hand I can pick up a 07 base hatchback for $500 over invoice.

If I keep it simple I'm OTD for $45k and $46.5 with a Z51 suspension.

Personally I think the 07 will easily run with an 02 ZO6 and be much better mannered. Add new factory warranty, better/new styling, not having to deal with potential used car problems; and I'm leaning towards the 07. An interesting point is that with how well the value of the C6 holds up after depreciation getting out of the 07 in a few years is just a few grand more than the used ZO6.

Opinions?

Get the new car. I trust you know some of the Zo6 had trouble with trans leaks (big bucks) and oil pumps having low pressure (Duh, huge $$$). My buddy loves his, but repair costs on this stuff is up there.

Oh any opinion on the new 6 speed paddle vs. manual?

pass on the padle, you might as well get a auto and shift through the gears at that point. The M6 is more resposive. Given your atributes, get the C6 and enjoy it. If you were a true gear head I'd say get the 2002 and with the spare 10K supercharge it then you'll be beating the 07' Z06 with 35K still in your pocket.
If you wanna be diffrent and have a killer Vette pick up a skunk for $30K. 1 of 1000

i believe the c6 puts out same hp and it's about 200 pounds lighter. It's also a much better car. Not to mention the interior is much nicer and it doesn't look bloated. Oh yeh and the top comes of. Why screw the z06 people? THE TOP MUST COME OFF. I don't care what it takes make it happen GM. The c6 will be my next major car purchase. I know a few people with it and everyone loves it.

it really all comes down to what you are doing with the car. Z06 is a pure sports car, ultimate track weapon. When I had mine, that thing was loud and nasty to drive around on daily basis. Z06 comes with different tranny and suspension.
C6 is more daily driver friendly, and you get power atenna!!!

Yes if one has a removable top and one doesn't, that would be my decision maker. I would never buy a vette where the top doesn't come off.

I don't think Bruce is going to take it to the track. You can't go wrong with either a C5 or a C6 as far as refinement goes. A plain jane C5 at minimum is 345hp, you bump the C5 Z06 number up to 405 for the later model and 400HP for the base C6. You have a lot of options with 2001-2007 Corvettes. You also can find bargains in the 01', 02's. Some as cheap as $25K OTD. The diffrence in hp is 60 either way, so don't let teh HP game get you all stressed. If you were running SCCA I would say Z06. But for what you want, a mid-life crissis car, any C5 or C6 will do it.

BUT, get a skunk..... it was underrated at 330 HP and it will be worth an arm and a leg in teh future. AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE NOTICED IN IT!!!

I'm not sure he'll know what a GS is, and the average person that doesn't know tends to think that they're ugly anyway.

The c6 has 405hp, same as the c5 zo6. I say go with the c6, looks better, lighter and is new.

What color are you going to get if you get a new one? I like lemanz blue.

I can't believe after all these years I finally pulled the trigger on a Vette. When it came down to it, there are enough improvements in the c6 to push me there for a few thousand more. Plus to my eye it looks much better. I've wanted one since I was 15 and a rich friend pulled up with one stocked with a "St. Pauly" girl looking blond. I got that blond in 2 years and have been Jonesing for the Vette since then. You do the math. This is an itch that needed scratching for a long time.

Man, I keep walking into the garage and get stupid, especially after a little celebratory lubrication.

In no particular order... And after a healthy bit of libation.

H-mon, I know what a skunk is. Keep it up my friend and we are back to Hernandez. I did a little soul searching over the last few days. I don't plan on tracking a street car. At 50 I'm pretty sure I'm done with that and I am in the poser mode. I simply can't go too far down a road that can leave my little girl without a dad. Yes, I'm wimping out. If I want to go fast I have the 929 which after 6+ years still gets my attention... quickly. I know, I'd probably be safer on the track with a Vette, but I can't part with the bike. Therefore, after demoing the 6 speed and the paddle I went with the paddle despite the 6 speed putting a stupid grin on my face and telling the salesman "I've got to get me one of these". that said, I'd take a c6 with a z51 package vs. a 02 ZO6 any day. I know the dealership family since I was a kid and was talking to the owner/manager. He talked me into the auto as he thinks that I'll either really like this or I'll turn my head a cough for a new ZO6 in a couple years. He and the GM told me to try the paddle and if I hate it he/they would get me out without too much pain. Plus Grace can't fry the clutch. Been there done that...

Tony, aside from the ZO6 all the 07 C6 hatchback Vettes had a pop top. Because of that a rag-top was never in the running.

Damn it hurt driving it in the salt and snow. Yes, she was hit with a wet rag and quick wax within minutes of hitting the garage. I can't wait for the salt to go away so I can power wash the undercarriage.

Jim; no rebates for Vettes. Get real my friend. Besides most are just deals on financing. I basically paid cash. IMO. toys should only be paid in cash or should not be bought. Sorry it is the CFP/MBA in me kicking in. I financed a little ($15K) so the dealership could get some "bonus" credits and promised not to pay it off before 90 days. On that note, I know the family and believe the salesman needs to make some money. I paid invoice and walked.

OK time to go out and smell the new car again.

I'm just glad your in the Vette club. I know you and I talked about it, what, 4 years ago when you were over here.

Only 2 pieces of advice:

1) Don't forget the wave
2) Live is better in the triple digits

Oh ya, Vettes only come out to play between the months of May through October. We should have a CLSB Vette day

Wow, very nice looking car, Bruce. I can't wait to see it in person.

Henderson, Bruce, we are going to have another Cage Day when the weather gets nicer.
