suv for under 20k

Thinking of stepping up to an suv. What would be a nice suv for 20k or less?

do not want an explorer or grand cherokee

maybe an mdx, 05+ xterra/pathfinder
03+ expedition

what else?

Yes alex I already know a cherokee

I had an 01 Xterra and loved it. The only complaint was the MPG, it was worse than most SUV's in it's class. Other than that it was an awesome truck. I miss it.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I really like the looks of the 05+ xterra's and they seem to be dropping down into my price range already.

yeah, the new X's are sleeker than the older model. They also come with a lot more options. They are based on the Titan chassis, so they are pretty tough trucks.

I bet you can find a used one with low miles for a good deal. Just make sure you get a warranty. I did. The only warranty work that had to be done in 3.5 years was the ABS sensor would kick out.

Do you want one that can venture offroad, or just one to get around town?

Wait 'till petrol is 3.00+ come late winter/spring- best time to buy a used SUV. Or even new for that matter.

jeep has a new midsize suv that starts @ 15k,Its not the liberty, dodge has one too. Trailblazers and 4runners are in that price range.Anything larger like a tahoe or a suburban will ba a bit more for a newer one.Try autotrader.com

New or used? I had a Mitsu Montero Sport a few yrs back and loved it but as most have said already. MPG sucked

I got my `04 Tahoe at CarMax for 18,5. My wife and I love it... V8 4x4, remote start, rear-seat heating, towing package, dual climate controls, running boards, and it really isn't bad on gas (I get about 15-20mpg depending). Best part is that it's got those multiple sunvisors that block the sun from the side and the front and has the extenders that pop out. You don't realize how awesome those are until you've used `em. I opted out of the warranty though.

I know it's small, but I have a Pontiac Vibe AWD and it kicks ass. I think it even carries more stuff than my old Chev Blazer did...

mostly will be used to carry people/cargo and maybe tow a small trailer. If I do go SUV I want something with a lot of room.

will probably be used.

Check out a used Cadillac SRX, can find one for around or a touch above 20K, the VW Touareg and Toyota Highlander would also be good choices close to that price range. Probably a bit above for a "newer" used vehicle, with good options.
