Very interesting...I wonder which stations will be getting the axe. I hope Fungus 53 makes the leap over. That's the only station from XM I wish I had on Sirius.

One can only hope they keep the best of both worlds, but we shall see. If DJ chatter goes thru the roof I'll be upset!

Ok, how does this work. If those two merge, isn't that a monopoly?

EDIT I just read the article, they mention it in there.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Monopolies don't exist. Have you see ATT lately?

Damn, that is scary. So much for antitrust and consumer protection.

Oh ya thats out the window. In fact you always here about companies having to wait for Govt approval to do a big merger. I'm curious to know if even one has ever been denied.

as far as this XM merger goes, they may as well do it, no one knew will be coming into the market, and the only way either of them will be profitable is to consolidate. I dont see it being around forever, especially with HD radio coming out.

I was really surprised to see how the article just brushed over the issue as if it was nothing. Although, it was the Money section of the site. We all know how regulation can ruin a quick buck.

I have a bad feeling about this.... there is very few reasons this would be good for consumers, and soo many reasons this could be bad. One think is sure, if my monthly premium goes up I'm gonna be pissed.

I agree, from what I have heard they have not done very well by themselves. The economy has not embraced Satellite radio as predicted. Together, they will have a stronger effect on the market.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this. satellite radio is growing daily with somewhere up near 20mil subs between the two companies. I haven't seen much on HD radio but as long as they are governed by the FCC they can't hold a candle to uncensored radio. 20 years ago no one needed to pay for cable television and people were making the same arguments, I can get everything I need for free over the air, but what section of the population has it now? It just takes time for the people to embrace it.

Dish and Direct T.V. were denied years ago and technically they would of still had competition through cable. I don't see how they could put this through. Many are denied every year.

I have been hoping for this so my Sirius stock would do something. So far no good but you can hope. I wanted a larger media company to snap one up like Time Warner..
