Renew Those Plates

I know the dates are staggered, but I think a bunch of us expire at the end of March. Renew those plates.

4 weeks via mail
5-10 business days online

You will need your insurance information and the letter they sent in the mail.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

At some point they went to expiring in any of the 12 months. They all used to expire in March ...I know it changed, cause I lost a bet.

I was shocked that I got my renewal on time this year...

Screw the currency exchange and their fees..... the DMV on 137 in Libertyville is never as busy as the ones in Schaumburg, Waukegan, or Deerfield.

i dont have to renew till august. isn't it only like $5 more to renew at a currency exchange? If I can't do it online I'll do it there.

I'm thinking about getting a different plate. Anybody know how much more that costs? I want a specialized plate, but don't know the cost.

Why do you need your insurance info when you renew the plate?

I did mine back in late january, didn't even have the paperwork with me. Just gave the clerk the plate # and paid my $38. No insurance info was requested either.

Maybe for new plates/vehicles?

Got it.. So if you renew online, THEN you need to provide your insurance info. I prefer to renew at the dmv, face to face. Want to see my dollars at work

(Did it in dekalb last time, 2 min wait at most)

Yup, I renewed in person and didn't have to provide them my insurance information. I too prefer in person so I get my sticker right away and not risk losing it in the mail or having a neighbor get my sticker in the mailbox. haha

Well on the renewal it looked and it said to bring it in also. I rather them check for it because it I have to pay for it, so should everyone else.

PLEASE WHAT EVER U DO, DO NOT USE THE CURRENCY EXCHANGE . I bought my sticker at the currency & i got pulled over twice because my plates came up as expired. I finally went to the DMV & they told me my plates have not been paid for in the past 2 years, which is the 2 years i renewed at the Currency. They were going to make me pay the past 2 years plus the current year but I got lucky because that week they had 30+ people that also got ripped off by the currency so i only owed for the renewal fee.

Bump.

This just happened to me on both the bike and the SUV. Don't use currency exchange they don't register the plates with the Secretary of State (IE: if you get pulled over (like me) your tags will come up expired)

I renewed my plates online for my truck. When it came to the insurance you can just put any numbers and it will still process. Trust me on this one.
