Well it was good to see everyone on the ride last night and it was wierd to see alot of you on a street bike as I have know alot of you for a while and this was the first time I have seen you on a streetbike.
I want to appologize for the ruining the group ride for some of the people last night. That was not my intent and I am sorry. Granted I have not ridden on the street in a long time just the race track but that I guess is haunting me now. No one really told me that you couldn't pass someone on a group ride and seeing that I did in in another lane I figured it would be alright. I guess not. I would not put someone in harms way or ride over my head to crash a $18K motorcycle. ***Editted for drama***
Won't happen again. I am not going to get into a pissing match of who was right or wrong I know I was wrong for what I did and not know what the "rules" where. No one explained them to me. From now on I guess I will stick to riding in a small group of people I know.

Yes I agree with grasshopper. It makes me a little uncomfortable and uneasy when there are that many bikes. I am unable to really ride at my own pace that I feel comfortable in.
hey guys and gals, this is my last post before i go to work for a few hours.
i wanna say something to everyone about this all.
this thread can go on forever about peoples personal preferences on group rides. who likes em, how big they like em, how some people don't feel comfortable in them, etc.
the fact remains, regardless of mistakes, regardless of fault, pulling it together for the sake of organization and safety is always a good thing and should be the priority on GROUP RIDES!
no matter if its at the start or end of it or anywhere in between.
act like a group, act like a club thats why we are all on here and want to ride with others! so pull your yourself s together!
Some of these "night" group rides are a disaster waiting to happen on the frontage roads. Too many driveways, too many cops, too much crap on the road and people trying to prove something to one and another. I'm not innocent at all so don't take this the wrong way.
That's why i stays in the back on gr's... Glad no one was hurt... And what's with all you guys and Duc's? Is there a sale going on that i don't know about??
We did have a pretty nice pack of bikes out last night! I'm sorry we had to cut it short. I look forward to another ride. Good seeing and meeting everyone.
Not to discourage anyone, but I personally opted out of group riding, after a major mishap a few years ago.
I decided not to go on a group ride a few years back and I was glad I did. The ending wasn't pretty, one newbie mistake, one rider didn't return, one rider hurt, and one website closed indefinitely. I'm not going into details but that is the major reason I won't ride with people I don't personally know any more. If I did have to I would be the last in line.
A paralyzed rider on a night ride, is what got me to stop group rides at night. Far too risky to ride hard when you cannot see where you are going, and what is on the pavement.
i noticed that ARCH , good thinking bout leaving the lights on!
I absolutely agree on stating the terms beforehand, so noone has questions....A MUST on group rides
I seem to see people latching on this is whole "mighty leader, head trip, power trip" thing.
You want to know what? You are right. On a group ride the leader is mighty. The leader is all powerful.
The leader is responsible for all the people behind him. The leader is responsible for scanning the road ahead of him. The leader is the eyes for all 15 people behind him. Those people are counting on him to do them well.
It is not easy leading. Ask anyone.
I do not lead these rides because I am on some power trip. I lead these rides because no one else on this site posts rides anymore.
Give me a little respect for taking the time to set up these rides. Give me a little respect for sacrificing my riding time to show some new riders some great roads in the area. Give me some respect for having concern for my fellow riders.
Excuse me for trying to make a safe environment for everyone. Excuse me for trying to minimize the risks involved.
If I piss off one person for the good of the group, then so be it. We, as a whole, will be better for it.
Rides lead by good leaders are very few and far between on here.... teaching others how to be a good leader is important too. I know that I started off as not so good of a leader, but with time I believe I became an okay one, and I understand the frustration that WSE is expressing, as I'm sure anyone that has lead a ride in the last few years.
I wasn't there last night though... but I can say that I've ridden with WSE and he's a great person to follow.
Drama that doesn't involve me getting banned from CLSB... this is great! :rofl
j/k guys....
I'm just glad you guys aren't hurt......
Makes me remember last summer's ride out west with Brian leading and the great ditch riding of that one guy that though passing on double yellows with oncomming traffic was a great idea! Glad he didn't get hurt, but man... similar situation... he was asked to at least pull to the back of the group... but didn't...
I live at 5 Honeybear in Romeoville. Wanna come over and chat about the cubs sucking buddy? :jester J/K
