Age for motorcycle permit??

I'm 17 and can ride, but I want to do this right and get a license before I purchase a bike come july. In order for me to take a MSF course, apparently I need a permit. I'm curious to know if I have to be 18, or if I can go get it now.

Thanks in advance!!!

do you have a motorcycle rules of road book or w/e, the thing used to study for the test? it explains the ages and what you can get on the inside cover or the first page, I don't remember exactly off the top of my head, I think you have to be 18 for over 250cc

found it: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/de...se/dlfaq.html; 3/4 of the way down the page

If you are age 18 or over, you may apply for a 12-month instruction permit to operate a Class L or Class M motorcycle. It allows you to drive only during daylight hours, under the direct supervision of a licensed motorcycle operator. If you are under age 18 and have satisfactorily completed driver education, you may apply for a 12-month instruction permit to operate a motor-driven cycle Class L (under 150 cc). It allows you to drive only during daylight hours, under the direct supervision of a licensed motor-driven or motorcycle operator.

An instruction permit for a Class M license may be issued to an applicant under age 18 only after successful completion of an approved driver education course and documentation of enrollment in an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Motorcycle Rider Education course. For more information on classes, please call IDOT's Motorcycle Safety Project (800) 892-9607 or (800) 642-9589.

i went thruogh this last year, under 18 you can only have up to a 250, with the msf course, after 18 take the msf course, pass it, walkinto the dmv and get your license

b4 18 u also have to take the test at the dmv even after taking it at the msf. i recommend waiting til ur 18

I acquired a license after completing the MSF class at the age of 17. the permit is a joke, just read the book and you should pass with flying colors.

NESBA - Seems to be missing, can someone direct me where to find it?

msf and take the written and road test, thats what i had to do last year bc i wasnt old enough without it.

http://www.outreach.niu.edu/mcycle/default.shtml gives you everything you need to know. To get in you have to show up on time and enter a raffle to be in one of the extra seats. Even if you dont have a bike for the road test at the dmv you can get your permit, wait till your 18, and just pick up the license.

Good Luck!

ha +1 me too for a few weeks until I got scared of getting caught, then went in and just took the class at the dmv. went to the MSF class as well after that and it was beneficial as well. Drove a EX250 when I started.

go get your "L" class and then go do it...Or you can do what Odysseys said and use the word FUCKER in between words...That ALWAYS works.

you dont need to get a permit, just so you know, if you take the msf class once you turn 18 (you dont need a permit for the class) and then just get your license if you pass pretty simple.

and btw, the MSF class is REALLY alot of fun
