Dam, that is a hard thing to do. Those pets become like family members. Remember all the happiness he brought to your life. Don't mourn his passing, celebrate his life.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Sorry to hear it man. Our thoughts are with you.
My Mom had to put her cat down this morning, he had kidney failure that was sped up by food from that recall.
We also had to put down our three year old American Bulldog a little while back. I cried more for that than I did when I pulled the plug on my dad. Pets are like family, only I think you can connect even more sometimes.

I'm tearing up a bit now just thinking about it. Her crate is still in my office with he impression in the bed.

Aww man, I'm so sorry to hear I know how it goes... I'm an animal lover too, especially dogs. A few years back I had a Shi Tzu that I loved to death, but he developed a tumor so large it accounted for 1/3 of his total body weight. Passed all the blood tests so we took him in for surgery, doc cut him open and couldn't believe how large it was, and already spread into his liver and other organs. Had to put him down.... it's a very hard thing to have to do. It's amazing how attached we get to our pets. I cried for days after that, and then again when my guinea pig died too... they really are like part of the family

Sorry to hear. We just put my 16 year old black lab down last month. When they get that old, you're waiting for that call any minute. It doesn't make it any easier. I thought I'd be able to handle it, but I took it pretty hard. I had that dog for over half of my life! She made up for my first dog that only lived 9 years. We got some of her ashes to spread in our backyard as well as my parents' where she lived.

OMG, I am so sorry

The only thing that ever filled that void for me was getting another to start that cycle back over again to form a new bond bringing with all the love and learned experience and reinvesting it... It doesn't make the current loss any less sad or diminish it, just re-channels the emotions towards another lucky cute rascal.

I have a glass of Crown Royal SR with your name on it for a toast to him if you want.

I'm sorry to hear this. They do become family, so easily and quickly. Remind yourself that quality of life has a certain value. Not letting go is being selfish, and cruel.

Peace and prayers.

Sorry for your loss. That is why I don't want another dog. It destroys me when I need to put them down. Just try to remember the good times.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Well, what a bunch of great posts. You all are great for support!! I love dogs and have two-a Westie and Chihuahua. They are the "Sons" and "Children" my wife and I could never have. We love them more than anything. What can give more unconditional love than a dog? What you are going through is very very tough. As others have said, remember the great times with all your heart. Don't be afraid to get back on the horse and get another dog. There is a dog out there right know that needs a wonderful new home and your love and attention. Go for it. God Bless all our pets.

I feel your pain...
I had to put my pitbull of 19 years down and it broke my heart.

I grieved a while and got right back into more dogs. There are plenty of them out there that need your love.

UPDATE...

Late Sunday night My wife and I had to take T-Bone in because of his comfort or lack there of. He was put to sleep and is now in puppy heaven. They say that your pets are the first ones to greet you when you go, So I hope he is first in line... Best dog ever. Hands down.
