2007 Ford Shelby GR1 Concept Car

More Pics

Ford spent $5 million developing this car, and another $2 million just building this particular one.

This is the first and only one of this type in existence, and was completed in early March 2005 in California.

In January 2004 it was sketched out on paper. In February, a full-size mockup was molded in clay.

Now, a year later, the real thing is on its way to the Detroit Auto Show, delivered by Kitty Hawk. This car wasn’t a mockup or a shell. The sculptor, designer and escort for the car is hoping it will take best of show this year.

This is the 2007 Ford Shelby GR1 concept car. If Ford decides to put it into production, potential buyers can expect to pay around $200,000 U.S. for it.

The entire exterior of the car is polished aluminum, and it has liquid cooled LED headlights.

Ok what the hell do you need liquid cooled LED headlights for, LED's already produce almost no heat. I'm guessing it also has extended life blinker fluid?

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

immagine the size of leds or the amount of them needed to provide a strong enough beam to light a street. i think that can create some heat.

I was led to understand that that platform for the Shelby was the GT platform. The GT can't be made anymore because of DOT bumper things that were coming into existance. I had heard that Ford was going to sell Shelby's for around $60k to $90k. A lot less expensive than the GT.

I can't remember but I remember seeing a show on TLC where they designed and put that car together. They had like a phtoshoot in the middle of the dessert after it was all done.

How many Enzo's does Ferrari sell? I'm curious how they compare to the numbers of GT's sold. I think Ford must have done alright on the program.

There were 400 Enzo's sold ... but I guess the right word is "produced". Not sure on the GT's.

total of 3427 in the US, and 4038 worldwide Ford GT's produced in 3 years.. And I dont think that Ford had problems selling GTs as most were sold before they were even produced in the first years

oh, and how could it be built on the GT chassis, if its front engine?

The LED light thing gets me too.. Honda just came out with some LED driving lights for the Goldwings, and man are they bright and really white. I think it's kind of like a magnifying glass effect, but backwards. It has a projector, and also a line-beam reflector on the bottom.. bright as hell..

It's ford. They probably put the body on backwards and run it in reverse.

I like it, except the polished aluminum part. and the GT was a big hit, one reason they are so expensive is because dealers mark it up way over MSRP because they know rich people will pay it. but hey its no four door 8,000 pound dodge charger. probably would be better with a Hemi huh?

and the LED's..... who cares!

i dont know why you guys are making such a big about them

Oh Ford is definitely in the shitter, but so are GM and Chrysler...and they all have their fair share of ridiculously priced concepts. They serve a purpose, we're here talking about that car now, right?
