American Express warranty perk

Always heard that items purchased with Amex give you some sort of extra warranty protection so I gave them a ring to have this explained to me since I may be taking the plasma plunge in the near future.
Goes like this. If you purchase an item with your Amex card Amex extends the factory warranty by 1 yr for free just by using your card to purchase it. They claim to cover 100% of what the factory warranty covers too. So to the end user it is just like having an extra year of warranty.
This can come in very handy when buying a plasma. Let's say the new TV has a one year in house 0 deductible warranty, by buying with Amex it suddenly goes to 2 yrs! No need to really buy the stores extended warranty anymore for another 2 or 3 hundred. Just thought I would give a heads up to everyone, wonder if this would cover bikes too or if motorized vehicles are exempt, may be worth a call for anyone buying a new bike..............

i believe they cover anything so long as you put the ENTIRE purchase on your american express. I was speaking to another member not long ago who put some larger purchases on it to get them to double the factory warrenty

I use my Amex for almost every purchase I make.

Good stuff but alot of places do not accept Amex due to the high transaction fee. Can be as high as 4+ percent to the merchant.
