Before I start cussing!!!!

Alright, I bought a 2002 f4i and went to the currency exchange today and paid $259. They said the tax was 102 or something like that. That number seemed a little high to me so when I got off work I did a little research and it is supposed to be $25???? Is that the correct amount? Does anybody know of any way that I can reach Corporate for the currency exchange before I go there tommorrow and get arrested for giving them a piece of my mind and getting my money back!!!!!!

Tax if bought used from a private seller is much lower than the same deal through a dealer. $25 from private seller sounds right.

$102 in tax for a bike purchased at a dealer would equate to a purchase price around $1,500 at 7% tax, which is way below what that bike is worth. Something is not right either way.

They "said" the tax was $102? Yes, it should have been $25. There should have been a specific state form filled out for the taxes, and maybe they should have given you a receipt outlining the charges?

I do not know how the currency exchange does it, but I did it all at the sos office, and that was the case there.

I remember hearing that currency exchanges were getting in trouble for excessive charges. I forget where I heard it though.

Either wait forever at the DMV or pay ridiculous fees at the CE. They get you either way.

Why does anyone use a currency exchange IDOT in Elgin is like, always almost empty. CEs always look like you'll get robbed leaving the place. I thought only illegals use those type of places. When I bought the M620 I did the title in Elgin took the grand total of 5 minutes and $25....good luck trying to get your money back.

PS Do your research before doing anything....not afterwards

I would say it depends how they represented it to you.

If it was represented as going to the state, it better have gone to the state
or that would be considered fraud.

I might go back and explain thei "mistake" to them and suggest they correct
it before you contact the state.

OTOH...

If it was stated as "fees" and you paid it....... oh well.

That really sucks. Bring your receipt in and try to talk to a manager. I think Tom might be right and they charged you the money as a "fee" for their services.

Next time save your money and go to a SoS office.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

+1!

currency exchanges are a joke and a scam... almost as bad as those legal loan-sharking places like check into cash.

The DMV is not nearly as bad as they used to be... especially if you are just doing plate and title stuff or sticker renewal. I have rarely been in there more than 20 min tops. The DMV on Elson moves so fast it is not funny and the one downtown in the thompson center is fast too

I was at the DMV last Saturday afternoon to do some title work and plate work on a few vehicles, I was in and out in a half hour. there were no lines.

Anytime you go to a CE you're bound to get hosed like that.

Shit I remember the last time I tried to get a title changed over, I decided to try a CE instead of going over to Elston... I also got quoted over $100 and find it absurd. Don't think it's illegal to have taxes on stupidity or just plain laziness though.

if you bought out of state from a dealer, i believe the taxes are charged from the "sale price" ie, asking price not what you paid. but for that cheap of a bike, it doesn't sound like it came from a dealer. good luck getting the money back though.

An out of state dealer charges you the taxes of that state. For instance, Indiana is one of the few states that reports to Illinois, when I bought the Daytona, they charged 5.5% and then I paid the remaining 1.25% when I titled it here.
