I did something bad today :(

Well I have been talked to by Carpentersville cops 2 times prior to yesterday, and got ticketed last night by the South Barrington cops for not having a front plate. They had a DUI roadblock set up on Algonquin and just pulled over everything in sight for ANY infraction. No passes. Seems they want my Vette to be fugugly. After 3 challenges in under 3 months and a ticket I broke down and put a front plate on it. Man it looks like CRUD!!! I hate Barrington donut munchers.

I hate it!!! In my eyes it spoils they looks of the car. I can't see past it right now. Anyone want a Vette?

I always worry about that when I drive in IL now that I have an IN plate on the Tundra. A front plate isn't required here, and since I bought it here, it doesn't even have a front plate mount.

Now if the Janesville cops would start handing those tickets out here to GM owners. Non GM cars without front plates get nailed constantly, but yet you see Firebirds, Camaros, vettes, Grand Ams, etc runnign with the cover on constantly. WI and IL require a front plate on cars and trucks so it better be on. Dont want a front plate, either get the law changed or quit whining everytime you get a ticket.

That sucks that you have to put the plate on the Vette.

For the last 8+ years I've not had a front plate. *knock on wood* never got ticketed for it. I've been pulled over for speeding but lied and said that I will install the plate soon. haha

No front plate for me. It doesn't have the cover or holder like other cars, it needs the bumper drilled and I won't do it.

Wasnt there some legislation a few years back allowing vette owners to run no front plate?

I used to run my front plate on a remote actuator. It fit behind my front bumper. If I rolled thru an asshole town or was getting pulled over, touch a button and you can see it. Contact my buddy Bryan at http://lococaraudio.com for details.

My dad and brother would have punched me for that one.

At least the vette has a nice recessed hole for the plate, I'm stuck with a giant cow pusher bracket if I put mine on.

Oh nevermind...forgot you had the c6. You should stick the plate on the lower valance, so it's not actually on the bumper, but can still be read from the front.

When I lived in IL i never had plate up front of my truck... and never got shit. One of my friends, actually called local PD and said she got her bracket broken and if there is anyway she can be marked in the computer so that she doesn't get pulled over... Supposedly they said they did mark it, but how much of that is true, I don't know.

I wouldnt beat up on any particular department on this. It is very standard to get pulled over/tickets for this no matter where you go. I got tickets on my sportscars when I was a teen for not having a front plate. I guess blade never had a car that looked good without a front plate before If you want to get more shit from the cops ...go get the side windows tinted dark!

I've wanted to take my front plate off since I got my car, it would look SOOO much better. But I haven't. I don't need the hassle or another ticket.

Sorry for the ticket, Bruce, but now you have to be fugly like the rest of us.

Yeah it should be visible and 12" off the ground if I remember correctly. So those inside the bumper or under the windshield plates will not help against a ticket. I had 4 of these tickets, and finally just said fug it and obeyed the "law".

Sorta on topic, but i've seen a few cars with the front plates chopped up, only leaving the letter/numbers so that it 'fits' better on certain areas of the car. Is that legal?

I'm guessing it's not, but I don't feel like looking for the exact law stating why.

Well I went with the stock mount. It is above the "mouth". I didn't want to interfere with the cooling. Man it bugs me, but I guess that I'll attract less attention if that is possible in a red Vette.

BPD really does suck. Rick, I've disliked them the first time I've run into them. Any dept that routinely tickets for 6 over and makes a fuss over the front plate needs to get a life. Sort of funny, with the Carpentersville cop, we were joking about it on 2 occasions at a White Hen. Both times, I got the "nice car, don't speed and get a front tag" conversation. Both times we ended up laughing about me being a poser and that it's not a moving violation and only $50. They did say if I was tagged for speeding, they would hit me with it too. BPD, specifically said that if I just paid the fine and they got me again, I was in contempt and the next time it is $500.
