Japanese restaurant

I'm looking for a good Japanese restaurant recommendation. Especially one where they cook right in front of you. I work in the south loop and live in Lombard so looking for anything near or in between those locations!

It depends what you're looking for. For sushi go to Nami on Ogden Ave in Clarendon Hills. Sit at the sushi bar infront of Sushi Joe. That guy is a chef/comedian. If you're looking for japanese grill, any one of those mentioned above is good.

I love Domo and Japan, but Kiku has stepped it up a notch, and they also have excellent sushi to compliment their hibachi menu. Domo, Japan, Benihana all need to remodel and bring those dilapidated interiors into the 21st century.

Kiku all the way, worth the trip!

It's on Dundee Rd in the shopping center with Kohl's, X-Sport, Portillos and FNH... North side of the street and its actually like a mile west of AH Rd.

We just went out there for dinner tonight, as I had not heard of the place until seeing this thread earlier today.

It's on the North side of Dundee (68) just east of 53. It's directly to the left of Kohl's.

Food was very good, the salmon and steak was cooked perfect.

There's a new brand new Domo in Aurora/Naperville on Rt34. I haven't been there yet. After Japan77 moved across the street from their old spot they haven't been as good. And I don't like the feel of the new Japan77 either. It's like a HS cafeteria/commons feeling.

I'll probably be going to Domo soon.

Ron of Japan isn't as good as Domo, imo but is still good.

Not a grill restaurant, but if you're looking for good sushi, try "Sushi Kushi" up in lake forest, or "Sakura" in mt. prospect. At both places, sushi are pretty good and expensive. Appreantly those guys have thier own supply chain and have some fishes that are air-shipped from Japan.

If you have chance to sit on the counter, ask the chef what's good on the day, and he'll tell you fish that are especially good or fresh on that day.

They've got couple of bitch waitress ladies in "Sakura," but that restaurant is most often used by Japos for business dinners.

The Godzilla Maki is awesome.

In case you guys missed it, some Japanese restaurants were caught substituting Tilapia and Sea Bream for Red Snapper. Red Snapper is a better and more expensive fish.
