I hate owning a convertible...

Not three months after replacing a brand new convertible top, due to the original one getting sliced open by some bastard trying to steal stuff outta my car, I come back to find it cut open again (just a small hole this time at least) and my head unit missing... At least they didn't steal the amps and subwoofers from the trunk but goddamnit, this is the third time this car has been robbed in the few years I've owned it. I don't even care about the head unit, it didn't even eject CD's consistently anymore but now I have to deal with fixing another convertible top and repairing the damage they did to my dash while prying out the stereo

That sucks

When I had my Vdub I went through Stereos like crazy. I even had two taken without faceplates on them.

Same with a convertible one reason I would not get one.

Sh*t that sucks. What kind of car is it? Does it have motion sensors that trip the alarm if someone tears the cloth-top?

don't lock the doors. If they're gonna steal the car or the radio, they're gonna slice the top anyway. Hopefully the doors will be open they'll just steal your change and leave the top alone

I use to never lock the doors when my car is in the garage for the very reason you mentioned. When my garage was broken into, the bastards didn't break my window but they tore up my dash and glove box stealing my stereo equipment. Bastard thieves couldn't even steal shiet correctly.

Now I lock my doors, maybe it will deter them or the window breaking will trigger the alarm. Either way, that's what insurance is for.

I'm on the phone with my insurance company right now seeing if I need to tell them about my new nav unit. I would hate to have mine stolen and insurance not cover it.

EDIT: Its covered under my current policy.

StateFarm?

StateFarm kicks ass with covering aftermarket equipment. I didn't have any receipts but I had pics documenting the installs and gear. StateFarm not only replaced all my audio stuff, they gave me a free upgrade to the next model since my current model was discontinued. They even reimbursed me for a new fuel controller that was stolen. "The guy said just go buy it and we'll reimburse you!" ... Kick ass! and my rates didn't go up either.

After it happened the first time I would have gotten full coverage insurance. I have full coverage on all my cars regardless of age. It's cheap enough to justify for me anyway.

Put blades of razorlike sharpness around the stereo. The thief/ves will leave a blood sample for the LEOs.

They'll also likely get so pissed off and do even more damage to your car, but maybe someone will see a bloody-handed dickhead beating the crap outta your car.

If you've got nice aftermarket upgrades don't trust anybody that services your vehicle. Always remove ins. cards, registration, check books, etc. before taking it in and give them a false address for the service ticket.

Even if you can trust the guys in the shop it's way too easy for someone to take a quick inventory of what you've got & sell a thief the addy.
