paris hilton gets jail time cut

Authorities cut Paris Hilton's jail term in half to about 23 days

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paris Hilton will serve about one-half of her 45-day jail sentence and be separated from the general prison population, authorities said Wednesday.

The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special-needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Calif., Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behaviour, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

Notebooks: Don't pay for shipping
Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile prisoners, he said.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-convict facility, Hilton will be given at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge ordered her to report to jail by June 5.

Yes, it teaches that if you have money, they will count ACTUALLY SHOWING UP FOR YOUR COURT DATE as "good behavior" and you are entitled to some extra padding for your slap on the wrist.

Worthless waste of oxygen.

How can they give you time off for good behavior when you haven't actually served an jail time? I think that if they wanted to teach her a real lesson, they would make her serve her full sentence in a real jail.

Did anyone actually think she was going to serve the full 45 day sentence anyways? Money gets you better sentences always.

She'd end up dead in a real prison. I bet she'll still have cable and her bentley.

so do a lot of other people that go there. WTF does that have to do with anything?

If anything, she's got a bigger chance of survival, being able to offer some damn money for protection.

The potential to end up dead in a real prison did not deter her from any crime.

...fancy that.

Actually in any crime that you go to a state prison for, you can count on doing only 30% of your time... And you always get credit for court dates for good behavior...

In Local counties it is a little more time, about 40% generally...

In Federal, You would automatically have to do 85%...

Back in the saddle again...
