Pontiac G8

I'm not a big fan of American cars but this thing is impressive.

http://www.pontiac.com/g8/

Anyone know about pricing? Wonder why the release isn't till next year? Yeah I know it's an '08.

Isn't the G6 a box of issues on 4 wheels? Would you figure the G8 is much better?

American car makers are in trouble.

Toyota is so poised to take over Chevy, Dodge is selling off sections...Ford is barely kept afloat by it's Union backing...

Looks like a competition for the Charger. I like the look of this one but would rather have my SRT8 Charger back

It's Australian, made by Holden...it won't be anything like a regular Pontiac.

It does come in a 6 speed manual, there's also a G8 GT that will only come with a 6 speed and a 400hp 6.0. Pricing is supposed to be around 35k for the GT.

Happy times for American hoons. Number minus-one from a first-year batch of 30,000 Pontiac G8s just crawled out of its shell. That is, the first Pontiac G8 -- an engineering prototype not among the first production models -- rolled off a Holden assembly line in the South Australian town of Elizabeth. Essentially, the G8 is a re-skinned Holden Commodore VE, which has collected reviews in several shades of awesome. To recap: A few months back, the General, spooked by the prospect of rising CAFE standards, said it had "pressed the pause button" on its rear-wheel-drive plans. Then, whoops, it pressed play again. Back on track, the G8 is the first American domestic market vehicle built off GM's RWD platform known as Zeta. (The Camaro will likely be #2.) A nearly 400 horsepower (391 hp) 6.0-liter V8, along with and six-speed manual, will be standard fare on the GT model. Good on you, GM. – Jonny Lieberman

Not necessarily. I prefer foreign cars. Just thought it was interesting.

I'm not impressed. It looks like a regular run-of-the-mill sedan. That's a pretty big engine with some decent HP numbers, too, but its a not much of an eye-catcher.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Cool G8

Sounds like it will have a kick ass stero system. Other than that I still like the GTO better.

All it is is a rebadged Holden Commodore SS (See avatar for what the front of one is and looks MUCH better than teh pontiac nose). Commodore SS's are whats used in Aus Supercar road racing against Ford's Falcon XR8 (one which I'd wish Ford would import over here. Could save Ford here).

BTW the new upcoming 08/09 Chevy Impala SS is also a Commodore SS but will be built in canada under license. The G8 will still be built in Aus and shipped over last I heard.

Glad to hear the Impala is going back to RWD. I was pissed when Chevy changed that. You seem to know your GM stuff. Will there be a TA/Firebird release along with the Camaro?

When you live in a GM town, its amazing what you hear on them. Not only that I knew they were killing the F-bodies off back in 1998. Wonders of having auto industry mags at the shop. Only thing they were wrong about was the camaro name was supposed to be put on the "cavaliers replacements" (cobalt) performance version (cobalt ss was supposed to be a V6 fwd camaro originally)

BTW no Firebird or trans am. Those are done. GTO may come out again though, also built of the Zeta. I dont expect the camaro's and Challengers to last all that long in production either.

The Holden in your avatar looks good. The Pontiac nose on this one makes it look like just another member of a rental car fleet, like all of GM's sedans. Their styling has gotten really boring.

Well it was in one of the manufacturers mags. May had been 99. Was about a year before we consolidated the suburban shop with the van shop.
