Directv Can Suck My..........

After showing a $75 "non monetary" credit on my bill for 6 months (I cancelled in Feb after they no showed twice, and told me they couldn't install once because I had snow on my roof ), they sent me a bill with a $100.01 "programming adjustment" so I now owe them $24.xx

When they send me to collection, how do I dispute it?

First... make sure it doesn't get to collection. If they failed to establish service, you were not a customer. Get them to send you, in writing, details concerning the bill. It will also help to take a picture of your roof (or someone without a dish). Send that along with any written correspondance.

If they won't forgive the $25, and it does go to collection. Send the collection agency a written letter requesting a copy of your signature on a contract showing acknowledgement of services received. Here's a form letter I've created and used a few times in the past to great effect (put it through spellcheck... this is going from memory).

Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is in regards to collection account #: ___________ I believe this collection is in regards to services requested from _________ but never received. This matter should be closed. Do not contact me again unless you have a signed contract or receipt proving that service was established. This should prove difficult since no such agreement exists. Please cease and desist all attempts at collecting on this account. I expect that no further action be taken against me or my credit, and that no further contact will be made without more information. Any further contact without cause will be treated as harassment and taken up with local and/or state authorities.

Sincerely yours,
__________

Thanks Slycer, I'll give it a shot.

It's not the money, but rather the principle. Shit makes me want to smash someone with a hammer.

I know some folks over at DTV, they are a client of ours. If you'd like you can send me an email with the particulars and I'll see if I can pull some strings to help. At minimum you'd have to send me your full name and DTV account number. My email is [email protected]

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.

Thanks, but I wouldn't ask someone to use up a favor over $24.00

For items already on your credit report FROM COLLECTION AGENCIES, simply dispute them with the 3 bureaus. The less words you use, the better. If they're not removed... wait 2 months, dispute them again. 2 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years. After 2 years, most collection agencies have removed the records internally, or won't be able to comply.

Never lie to a credit bureau... but also never tell them the whole truth. Phrases that have worked for me and my friends are...

"In spite of repeated written requests, the creditor refuses to provide details about the nature of the bill."

"This bill was paid as part of an insurance settlement and does not belong to me."

"This account is currently being litigated."

"I have no knowledge of this debt."

"This debt was listed as part of a fraud investigation."
