Stopping Credit Cards

How do you get the CC companies/banks/loan institutions to stop sending you offers on Credit Cards?

I recently raised my credit score because I paid off several loans but now it seems like I am getting either more CC offers in the mail or ones with a lot higher credit limit (i.e. yesterday I got an offer on a CC with a $30K limit). This makes me worried with all the fraud out there. Am I just paranoid or is the paranoia justified?

Most of them have 1-800 numbers you can call and request they take you off whatever mailing list they have. I had to do that with HSBC since I already have an HSBC card, they won't give me another, but they bomb me with more and more offers (much better then the one I have of course). One call silenced them...at least till my credit score goes up again.

Edit: Makes good kindling otherwise

So does that mean that I have to call every damn bank out there? or a call to the big 3 or is it big 4 will do it?

Mebby your credit is *way* better then mine that you get more then the big 3 or 4, but those should at least slow down the inrush.

I know when my credit goes up by the sudden inrush of CC aps. LOL

You know what i do I let them send me the stuff and hold it for about 2 months or so and then repackage the applications for that company and mail it back to them with the supplied envelope. Since it cost them money eventually they will get the picture and stop.

Yeah man... I remember when I couldn't get a $50 gas card w/o first putting $500 down...

Now, after 2+ years of a mortgage and 3 years of car payments, all I get are CC apps... fuggers, I just want normal mail. I never thought of calling them and requesting to be taken off the list.

A friend puts his cigarette butts in the return envelope.

Its just junk mail. Tear them up and toss them out. Like you I'd noticed that I got more when my credit score went up.

If you call the big three or four it'll slow to a trickle. I called MBNA and I get very few if any now. Me thinks they were selling/trading my info to everyone else.

good info Gixx

you need to shred these offers when youget them, just tearing them up is not enough because alot of them have a number in them to use to set the account up online, just ripping it up makes it easy to still access it, croscut shreader is the only way to go.

also all the bulk mail ones that you get don't count against your credit score until you act on it. If you actually make the request for the card then it is an iquiry that stays on your report for 6 months and then falls off. It does effect your score but I don't remember how much.

On another note along these lines, the don't call list doesn't get rid of everything. All the police associations that are collecting money all the time. 2 Things to note about these, it is usually a private company that is doing this "for them" and there end up being multiple companies trying the same thing. I never donate to these because a friend a year ago put the person on hold and called the police organization that the collection was being taken for. That certain organization only does it once a year and they currently weren't doing it, when they do do it, they do it themselves, they don't use a third party for it. So my friend called out the person on the phone about it and they hung up on him once trying to find out information about who they really where.

I was under the impression that if you have a crappy credit score than you are less likely to get a good loan rate. Thatís a pretty shitty perk if you ask me

No you are wonderful at life.

You just suck cause your landlord is making money off of your ass. Buy a condo. Then watch the junk mail roll in after a few months, your mailbox will be full.

1. Save every Free Credit Card Offer you get, Put it in pile A

2. Save every Free Coupon You get, put that in pile B

3. Now open the credit card mail from pile A and find the Business Reply Mail Envelope.

4. Take the coupons from pile B and stuff them in the envelope you hold in your hand.

5. Drop the stuffed to the brim envelopes in your mail and walk away whistling. I have now received two phone calls from the credit card companies telling me that they received a stuffed envelope with coupons rather then my application. They informed me that it they are not pleased that they footed the bill for the crap I sent them. I reply with "It says Business Reply Mail" I'm suggesting coupons to you to ensure that your business is more successful. They promptly hang up on me.

Now, I did this for about a month before it got boring, so I got an added idea! I added exactly 33 cents worth of pennies to the envelope so they paid EXTRA due to the weight. I got a call informing me about the money, I said it was a mistake and I demanded my change back. After yelling at the clerk and then to the supervisor they agreed to my demands and cut me a check for the money. I hold in my hand at this very moment a check from GTE Visa for exactly 33 cents.

Thought about it, but taxes put me over my monthly spending limit. Unless you can find me a nice place like I have now for about 100k

Well, if you don't mind a commute, there are more than enough options, but since you're such a baller in Naperthrill, I'd imagine you would have a tough time parting from such a wonderful town... here is one option:

But I do like where I am, and If I purchased something like that, I would be responsible for everything inside. Which I am not ready to do. I would rather just make a phone call to the office saying I have a problem and its fixed within 12 hours or I get money off my rent.

And rockford would be like a 2 hour commute one way!

maybe some day they will turn my place into condo's and ill buy it then!

Owning a home isn't all it's cracked out to be. Sometimes I wish I was renting. Then the 1st of the month comes and I change my mind.

I'd let you live in my detached garage for $100K. There is no indoor plumbing and you have to share the other side with bikes and cars but the location is super. Right by I90/I94 and the brown line.

does the brownline come from no indoor plumbing?

The people taking huge hits on their home values in places around the country would disagree with you. Renting, in those cases, means you have more disposable income to invest in things with better rates of return.

yea but wheres your equity. you dont sell back an apartment. you could spend $1000 a month on either mortgage or you can give it to your landlord. when you wanna move you move out of an apartment but with a condo or house you sell it and get the money back that youve put into it. renting that money just goes down the toilet with absolutely no return.
