Need ideas for my San Jose, Ca trip

I'm going to San Jose August 13-17th for work. I'm not familiar with the area and need some ideas from anyone that is.

While I'm there I'll be celebrating a big contract I won. Any suggestions for something really fun to do while I'm out there?

Any restaurants I should check out or anything else fun while I'm out there?

I'll be staying at the Fairmont in downtown San Jose, but I'll have a rental car.

Hit the beach, hit some YWB's.

OR rent a bike, hit some canyons, hit some YWB's.

Rent a bike, and hit some good curvy roads. If you need info on that (bike rental) I can help you as I have rented bikes out there before.

Be Sure to check out San Jose BMW. They sponsor Brian Parriott in the Moto-ST series and they're a bunch of great guys over there. www.sjbmw.com

Also, they rent bikes too http://www.sjbmw.com/rentals.asp

have fun!

I'm usually next door at the Hotel Montgomery

Highway 9 South of Saratoga... bike preferred, but a car trip is nice too.
Stay off 17.

Original Joe's on San Carlos and 1st street for Italian food.

OH NO.. CLOSED thru September!

DOH!!!!!

Let me re-think of some other places.

The Paragon rest. at the Hotel Montgomery is nice and there's usually good events going on during the week. There's a theater just down First street that was restored that has some interesting things going.

http://www.paragonrestaurant.com/

let me mull some other stuff over in the meantime.

Even if you don't rent, I'm sure its a cool shop to visit. And if anyone knows the fun spots to hit, its gonna be some motorcyclists! :

screw San Jose, drive the hour to San Fran and check out Alcatrez then head up to wine country!!! If you have the time, drive directly west to Highway 1 from San Jose and take that up north. Northern Cali is GORGEOUS!!!

go snag "The Rush Street" or "The Fridge" from Pizz'A Chicago

I loved their pizza when I went out there to visit my brother. I wish they had some restaurants back here.

I have something against going to a different state and eating at a Chicago style pizza place when I live a mile from giordanos.

Alcatraz sounds like a cool Idea. Has anyone done this? I have no problem driving to san fran in the evenings.

It's different than Giordano's. Give it a try one night while you're there.

Meech is right though about site seeing. All the tourist stuff is in San Francisco. Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, etc.

Go abuse your car rental down Lombard street and see how fast you can do the turns.

take your beacon and post up your laptimes

of course I'm right, I'm a girl

Any who...one day in San Fran is plenty to see everything. Definit ely do a tour at Alcatrez. I hate history but found it really interesting. You have to see the bridge of course and crooked street. Ride a trolley and call it a day I wasn't impressed with Fisherman's Warf b/c it was so dirty but if the seals are out, swing by and take a gander, it's one of those things you just have to do as a tourist

Other than that, what I'd really suggest, if you like wine at all, seriously go up to Napa and Sonoma Valley!!!! It's AMAZING, beautiful, and make sure you eat at the culinary school nestled in there!!! You won't be disappointed.

Yes I have go to Fishmans warf I believe it is called. Great scenery and you can do the Alcatraz thing. Fun as hell. I will post up pics of Alcatraz, the sea lions and the trolly ride. I was fun. Be prepared for the crazy weather changes in San fran. Also go to the Golden Gate Bridge and park. Sosclito forgive my spelling is also very nice.

Of course, you're only about 90 miles from Infineon racetrack, so if there's an open track day . . . . .

You could head south to Santa Cruz and dodge used condoms and HIV infected syringes all over the beach.
