So I'm getting Married...

So, it kinda happened in a weird way. Me and my gf were looking at places to have a wedding, and realized that if we want to get married before we move out to San Diego Next Fall, that we were going to need to reserve a hall for a reception since there were only a few available dates open at one of the venues we were looking it. I havenít exactly proposed yet, but Iím going to go find a ring this weekend. When youíve been dating for 7+ years, itís not like itís really going to be a surprise anyway. Iíll still formally propose to her w/o telling her when so at least I still have that. Oh well, when youíre trying to plan a future, itís kinda hard to do things the traditional way. So we put a deposit down for June 21st of next year. Iím pretty excited and nervous and fill in the blank, but I know itís the right decision. Just thought I'd let people know.

Well, luckily, when her grandfather passed away, he left my Girlfriend and her Sister each $10,000 for their weddings. I basically just have to buy the rings. I think I am paying for the DJ and Liquor Also, at least that's what her sisters husband paid for, so I'm assuming her family will want me to do the same.

Good luck. I just got married 2 weeks ago, and holy shit are weddings expensive. We went from the extravagant wedding with 200 people to a small wedding at the Morton Arboretum with 45 people there. I'm glad we did, as there was a $30,000 price difference.

being a biker you can do burn outs and leave the message written on the parking lot asphalt.

and when the cops cuff you and put you in the back of the squad car just look at her and say "it was worth it baby, were in it til the tread comes off your tires"

I have to laugh when people spend 10s of thousands of dollars on receptions. Sure, it's a special day and hopefully only comes once in your life- but hey it's not my money.

I worked with a girl that spent $35k on her reception (at last count!). She got everything she wanted, in typical fairy-tale/fantasy perfection. When she got back from her honeymoon, reality set in. She was working for the foreseeable future to pay off her reception. What better way to get off to a more resentful start to the rest of your life together? If you have that much money to blow, then more power to ya.

Not saying this applies to the OP, but I'd suggest trying not to go overboard. I'm lucky- my father in law is our pastor, and the church we got married at let us use their gymnasium for the reception for $0. Sure, reception-hall snobs just LOL'd at my reception in a gym, but my wedding cost me less than the two weddings I've attended this year cost ME-- and I didn't stand in either.

I'll probably spend no more than $5000 with her family paying for most of it. My parents will cover most of what her family wants me to pay for, minus the ring. My girlfriends sisters husband (my future brother in-law) knows someone that is a manager at a Jewelry store, so he's gonna get me hooked up. He got the engagement ring for his wife for $2000, than had it appraised for over $5000, so I'd say he got a decent deal. So, hopefully, I don't spend much more than $2000 out of my own pocket.

You can't put a price on diamonds! You have to go get the biggest and clearest diamong ring you can find!! Price is no object!!! Here is a starter ring that I suggest... http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/dia...ng=roundmelee&

I was waiting for a girl to post up something from Tiffany's...

Anyways, just make sure you know the 4 C's. Clarity, Cut, Carat, Color. You'll be able to get the same thing from a retail store from a jeweler, but much cheaper and probably better quality for the same price.
