with state farm you have to go through a state farm authorized repair shop. had a cage accident last year. 1st one and that`s the way i had to go about it.

Operating a motorcycle. So easy, even a caveman can do it. Knowing how to ride? Priceless.

StateFarm doesn't have any authorized bike repair shops. You can take it to an approved shop that does estimates and SF issues you a check.

SF only gives you $1,000 for medical so good luck with that.

You get an estimate, State Farm sends a guy out to the shop to make sure it's legit, State Farm sends you a check for the amount to get it fixed.

I don't know Troy, (I don't think you mean xxessivespd), but I personally would go thru State Farm and have a real shop do it.

I don't know about SF but most providers don't allow you to have more then one estimate unless you want to pay for it since moto estimates aren't free like cars. just something to keep in mind.

Thats not how it worked for me. They only give you $1000 up front for medical bills. I forgot their reason, but yeah, it seemed weird to me at first. But after that send them the bills as they come in and they take care of it. I had around $3000-$4000 grand worth of medical bills. They took care of all of it

Well I gave the dr. my regular health ins info cuz according to state farm I have no medical thru them......hpefully this isn't going to be an issue

And Troy is T'znutz from the board.....state farm gave me regular body hops that focus on cars, I would rather have someone/someplace do it where motorcycls are their speciality

yeah, When they first explained it to me, I thougth they only paid $1000. I was pissed. But they had some weird reason for it. I forgot how it works and it was super confusing. But the main thing is, they DO pay more than $1000. Just not right away. ALL my bills were taken care of within a month or two.

call your agent

You can take your damaged property to the shop of your choice. They have no right to tell you where to get YOUR property fixed.

They try to get you to go to "approved shops" because those shops will give SF a cut rate on labor.

This should work okay for you. You will probably have to sign a letter for your health insurance stating that there is no other insurance available from the auto accident. That is how it worked when I wrecked and needed some medical work. It was a pain in the ass because the insurance wouldn't pay at first, but after going through the motions, my regular health insurance did pay.

The way the medical works on autos is this: The medical from any auto insurance (yours or the other driver if it's his/her fault) pays first. Once that is used up, your health insurance will kick in.

With State farm, report the accident, they will tell you to take it to a dealer to get a quote. They will then send a rep out to make sure the quote is valid and then they will send you a check. Fix the bike any way you want after that. I took my bike to the highest priced dealer I could find, got my check, and then fixed everything myself with parts bought off ebay. I made about $700 on the deal.

Try to claim your gear too, but I don't think it works.

Shelly take the bike to Willy World as it's only cosmetic damage. Can't really screw that up...or well would be hard to anyways and just make sure to look over the bike 100% before accepting after all repairs.

First mistake was telling the doctor that you where involved in a motorcycle accident. If you have Blue Cross Blue Shield which I hope you do they will cover you expanses minus your copay if there is any. State farm is good for getting moeny quicky to repair your bike but it might be cheaper in the long run to repair the bike out of pocket. Unless the bike is totaled i would repair it out of pocket.

+1. It is illegal for the insurance company to tell you where to go. Many people don't realize that. They can suggest shops, but can't steer you.
