Printer question

Im trying to install a new printer on my laptop. I have the software installed, everyting connected etc but its not finding the printer when printing. Its selected as the default printer. Im using a usb cable. Am I not specifying the correct port to print to or do I even need to select a port with usb ?

A new printer is about to hit the wall. I need help

USB printers can be funny. What OS are you running? Some of the older ones have to have additional software installed to be able to print via USB.

Did you run a setup program or just use the add printer wizzard?

definitely sounds like a port problem check the settings again.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Does your PC say it sees a new device when you plug the printer in?

Usually it is provided by the manufacturer of the printer. I think the problem is it detected a USB device and installed the device drivers, but no the USB Printer Port software.

Look on the CD you got with it, and run the setup.exe usually that goes through a list of tasks, one of them should be the software that configures the USB Printer Port.

Or upgrade to XP and it will work.

I would always have problems with 98 and usb. If the printer supports it get a good old fashioned printer cable.

IM GOING TO GO POSTAL ! I dont have time for this crap !

My "former" computer support company talked me into going back to 98 from XP because XP had too many networking problems.

I guess I ll look around to see if I have an old printer cable to use. This is ridiculous
