Got an Engagement Ring...

Here it is...It was $2875, but she knocked off $937 for me, and then I added the lifetime warranty on the finish which was $60 for the engagement ring, and $20 for the matching wedding band which includes re-dipping and polishing for the lifetime of the ring. After taxes and all that is was like $2233.93. It's 1 carat T.W. I think the center stone is .50 carat, Color G, Clarity VVS1.

*Edit* I found a better pic on the website of the store I got it From...

The reason I chose this ring is because it is very similar to another ring I bought her that she totally loves (see below). She really likes the shape of the below ring, and the engagement ring is very similar to that shape.

Yeah, I had never seen anything like it. I wanted something original, so I knew as soon as I saw it, it was the right one.

She also hate's prong settings for some reason, so this really worked out well.

I can't get a really good pic taken, anyone have any advice on how to make the picture clearer?

Jewelry is one of the hardest things to shoot right.

Nice ring good luck.

Just get an independent appraisal then insure it.

Yeah, the jewelry store I got it from offers third party appraisals. It's an outside appraisal company that comes in and does it. My soon to be sister-in-law's ring appraised for more than double the purchase price from the same place.

I've seen this one before and I argree it is very beautiful and unique in the fact that it is princess cut, however, with the center stone on an angle. Some rings have really big prongs which take away from the beauty of the ring so I can see why she isn't a fan of them. Very nice choice. Here is a clearer picture of either the same or a similar ring:

It is similar to the one I had made for my wife Its a Marquis that is held just by the top and bottom points and the wedding band locks in opposite to form 1 ring.

Yes worthless without pics

That's pretty similar, except it looks like the side stones in that one are round. The ones in mine are all princess cut.

criminalgrrl...I got it at the Louis Joliet Mall at Fred Meyer, maybe you saw it there by chance??

I know exactly what you mean, I saw a few like that, but wasn't a fan of what the engagement ring looked like w/o the band. Looks cool when they are together though.

Well, I did what I said and it went well. She LOVES the ring. She said she couldn't have asked for something nicer. So it's official now. Fells better now that I don't have to tell people we're getting married and already reserved a hall, but she didn't have a ring yet.

Contrary to popular opinion, Tiffany's rocks are crap. Overpriced and over- graded. You can get great prices on great stones through mainstream jewelry stores or for really nice ones, go through an independent broker who moves them through Israel. Nice looking ring Pinto, good specs too, do any of the stones have fluorescence?

I'm not sure, I wasn't too concerned about that. How would I even know?? Here's a explanation of it from blue nile. I was more concerned with the 4 c's and finding a style she would like than anything.

Quote:
Some people seek diamonds that produce this unique effect, while others avoid it. The visible effects of fluorescence grades of faint, inert, negligible, and medium, can only be detected by a trained gemologist with specific UV light. A fluorescence grade of strong or very strong can make a diamond with a near-colorless grade look even whiter. In some very rare instances a diamond with very strong fluorescence can give the diamond a slight hazy or oily appearance. Diamonds with a strong or very strong fluorescence are a better value for the end customer because the market prices them slightly lower than diamonds with faint or negligible fluorescence.

Congrats, nice ring.
There are trade offs when buying a ring and having a set budget with the 4 Cs. Bigger carat, lower clarity...etc. When I bought one I narrowed it down to what I could afford based on the 4 Cs and then went with what looked best to my eye.

Fluorescence has almost no effect of the "quality" of the stone and therefore doesn't effect price (unless you're specifically looking for stones with fluorescence). I was just curious, I've always liked stones with high fluorescence and it's a good way to explain to your soon to be fiancee that her ring is special (most women eat this stuff up) if it is. Hold it under a blacklight and you'll see right away whether or not it is, looks pretty cool.
